It has been clearly from your words that you actualy have small or none of the live music performance experience. What you see as limited i see as free; the borders on the horizon were always good, either to restrict you to them or to go beyond them. Inflexible, yeah right, i perform with radiaL with no material being prepared, loading loops on the fly, dont even bother to choose the material; only "restriction" being not to use more than 6 channels. Guess what, i make music and people love it.

I own Logic from the emagic days, Live from version 2 and none of the mentioned did for me as PTLE and Mbox did.
So my comments (as much as being ridicolous to you) comes from the real everydaymakingmusic world.

And yes, "power steering, anti-lock brakes, power windows and a kick ass CD stereo system" is just for lifting chicks. Not my kind of weaponry ;)

Respect!

OT: This is my "led sled" (sic). It's my daily driver.

Speaking of drivers, somebody help Buckman - he wants to use Logic, Live and PT on the same machine. You guys know more than I on this subject.

As for ProTools/AntiTools - use whatever tools work best for you.

I wasn't questioning your musicianship friend. I

Or the fact that people might love your music.

I loved an album I heard recorded on Audacity with a couple of decent mics and pres, so yes, limitation is partially a state of mind but when you have the extra tools, you DO miss them when they're taken away.

I just don't think that PTLE is worth the money. It's a personal opinion. I was brought up on Cubase and now am a Live devotee. I have also used Logic Pro (mostly version 6 but some 7) as I have access to this at work and am involved in recording school bands and choirs for my school board.

I have a pal who uses PTLE and when he sees what he can do, he regrets his purchase. Yes, there are workarounds in some cases but he has since bought Sonar actually and definately is happy with that decision, even though learning a new DAW is a PITA.

And just for shits and giggles, I actually have plenty of experience of playing Live and recording. I've been doing both since 1986 in various groups and various sounds, rock, metal, synthpop, electro and recording on 4 track tape, 8 track reel, ADAT and computers.

Although I will grant you that family commitments have meant that I have not performed live in the past 3 years.

This is why I bought a duet and ditched the 002R. Not only does the Duet sound better, but the DIGI drivers are terrible.

PT vs Live

Post by monarkeys » Thu May 22, 2008 4:41 pm

PT LE (mostly) does not need plug-in delay compensation.
Details here:

And the last time I tried my Waves Linear EQ plug-in in Live, it created a horribly unusable delay. I think there is a limit to how much delay they can compensate for. Can anyone from Abe comment?

Why? In what way?

I just bought an MBOX 2 Pro today, and so far it is working out very well.

The comment on does not need PDC is totally false.

I looked at my plugin list and almost all of the mastering style plugins (compressors, multibands, tape saturation plugins) added significant PDC - Multiband compressor adds TWELVE THOUSAND samples. As did reverbs and some other modulation FX.

SIR Impulse Reverb by Christian Knufinke 8,192 samples. Zebra synth adds 16 samples latency, Magneto tape stauration plug in 260 samples. The numbers are all over the map and each one of these would require manual adjustment in PTLE.

Yes, not every plugin requires adjustment but unlike PTHD which has automatic delay compensation, PTLE does not. Yet - Live, Cubase, Logic, Sonar, DP, Fruity Loops, Reaper, Tracktion and just about any other DAW I can think of, many costing less than PTLE offer it.

The lowest latency you can run an Mbox at is 256 samples. The preamps are average, the gain raise is less than average.
