By using 'arm' I can focus a rack and thereby focus the blue hand and give my 8 macros access to that track. It actually works quite well.
I press a track select button and can then turn macro dials on the selected track. it's not perfect though.
does arming behave differently than just selecting the track header? I have mapped the track header and it still means selecting which rack I want on that track
arming selects the rack in the track.
IE - blue hand on the first rack on the track.
normally in a "live" situation I only have one main rack on each track so thats OK. The main rack encapsulates everything I want.
the only annoying thing is that currently live is giving me an audible click whenever I arm a track !

weird - not working here - but the other method did!
I have 2 tracks, I mapped keys on my computer keyd to the track headers and the record arms then tried selecting different things then jumping to the track with the keys
in neither case did it go to the rack if something else was selected previously, but with record arm even the track didnt get selected
was I supposed to change any prefs settings?

forge - works for me but I have to hit the button twice, it only works when the track goes into an armed state.
Angstrom - cool tip man, thanks!

Henke mentions that he uses 1 track for kicks, 1 for snares, 1 for hats, 1 for bass etc.
I noticed he had numerous "tracks" in his live set and uses midi. He also appeared to use operator for his kicks. He didn't talk much about bass, pads etc...
Does he use the same instrument for each track (ie. operator) and how does he change presets without looking at the screen?

racks containing different instruments (mostly operator, sometimes Si/ampler) and the clips select the chains using clip envelopes - and the clips are triggered with the Monodeck

And one of Ableton's greatest assets imo, that was really good. Thanks to COSM and especially Robert for showing how he works. Inspiring.

great video so much better than the political post we see here.
henke seems like a really cool guy, some one that you would have to go out of your way not to like.

This was so cool.
Tom did a great job trying to zoom in on interesting things in his ableton and Max setup too.
It has really inspired me to use Operator more. I can't believe he does his entire set pretty much using sounds from Operator.
It also inspires me to keep learning Max/MSP. I think he handled that question very well. I can see exactly the type of integration they will work on without knowing too much detail.
P.S. I have that SAME problem with the word basically when I do presentations. I started mixing it with "essentially". But that gets old too.

I must find some time to learn Max also, it's obviously going to feature in my future.
All my nerd buddies say "you would be great at Max", but anytime I have downloaded the demo I get too busy with other stuff to get going with it. Then it times out.
time for another demo I think

Yeah. I have been using reaktor for a long time and I tried pd but I have to say so far Max has been MUCH easier than pd and more interesting than reaktor.
In pd you pretty much have to know the object name and spelling for everything you'd want to use. In Max there are lots of little things that help. When you create a new object it gives you an object list to browse through. For a beginner this is crazy handy. And the tutorials they give (even with the demo version) are light years beyond anything I've found with Reaktor or Pd.
