Acid to Live file conversion

Post by Hexadecimal » Thu Sep 26, 2002 4:55 am

The discussion on the merits of Acid and Live have spawned a little inkling in the back of my mind on the idea of putting together some sort of conversion utility for converting Acid file to Ableton files.

Is there anyone out there who would find this of interest, and if so, and perhaps more importantly, are there any programmers out there that would find this of interest?

I decoded most of the Acid 1/2 file format a couple years ago and created a .DLL to read it so I could extract timing for conversion to Midi (for live playback purposes). I haven't done much on at the Acid 3 and 4 formats, but they're not completely different from Acid 1/2, just much uglier (and no longer standard RIFF files). I haven't peeked at Ableton's format at all, but I wouldn't guess it would be impossible to figure out.

I would find this very useful, however I can be of no help for programming. I hope that Acid files are at some point supported if not directly by Ableton. Maybe they can help you out?

Any work you could do on the ACID 3.0 and 4.0 formats would be tremendously appreciated. I am moving from a PC to a Powerbook and have no desire to use Virtual PC to try to run ACID 4.0.
