how do it monitor live channels before making them audible?

Post by bhammer » Thu Aug 19, 2004 3:22 pm

hi there.

i am using ableton live 4, and i use a motu 828 mk1...
i need some help here>>>

i want to be able to preview a track before bringing it into the mix, or even further, how to 'work behind the scenes', that is, make loops, record, and modify through headphones before bringing it in?

can you monitor multiple audio and midi tracks before bringing them in as a single, recorded audio track?

thanks,
brian

Use two Laptops! I won't do this on one machine!

Use a second Laptop! I won't do this on one machine, live! Get your second license (read the manual) for your Laptop.

A couple ways of doing this...

but my favorite (need an audio card with multiple outs, so that "PFC" is available instead of "Solo"):

1. Create a new track
2. Set the track to PFC (Pre Fader Cue).

You can bring in multiple samples and manipulate each before bringing them to the Main audible tracks

Get a soundcard with multiple outs. Its a WHOLE lot cheaper than another computer...

Piece. :P
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

Um well he seems to have a multi out sound card motu 828 (guess what that means 8 ins to 8 outs). to monitor tracks samples set 'cue out' on right hand side of the mixer, now set aside a spare track and set the output to 3/4 (make sure you've setup multiple outs in the live prefs pane), plug your headphones into the 3/4 output on the motu (a merge cable will be needed for stereo) now what ever samples you drop into that track will play only thru the headphones when youve done your editing just drag and drop into a track using the main outputs.

hehehhe second computer

cheers
