Lemur is for rich person..
BUT.. indeed, making a monodeck or our own hardware maybe expensive too (but less.. I guess)

I'll begin to plan my own building too.
It would permit to really use Live as a meta instrument.. without mouse etc..
I'm dreaming

Rich person

I'm always broke...
So are many of the other Lemur users I know.
I know people who spend more on weed and booze in 2 months then they would spend on a lemur.
Its all about discipline and Tax returns ;)
Hell, I bought my first G5 with a severance pay from getting fired.

It would be interesting if in the future Ableton branched out into producing hardware for controlling Live. Native instruments have started producign hardware so n reason Abes couldn't do it in the future.

I think a commercially produced version of the Monodeck could be achievied in a relativly sensible price bracket. They have aready got a well tested prototype :-)

Creature: Just realised you're a fellow Derby resident. How the devil are you?

I've been looking into building some sort of controller myself. Nothing as full on as a monodeck as I'm a normal person with bills to pay. I'll probably end up with something really basic but with a custom layout. For me thats the main thing. When I'm playing out I work with my scenes alraedy set up and triggered as and when I need them so selecting groups of individual clips isn't essential. I just fancy having a surface where things are laid out in a way that I can work with without thinking!

Hi FurryBum good to see a fellow Derby resident here. Where about in derby are you, Im belper but spend most of my days in pride park :-)

If you are thinking of building a controller have you seen the open source Arduino board:

http://www.arduino.cc/

Its a programmable usb controller board. you can hook you controls up to it and write some embedded code in a simple scripting language to control what you do with the controls. You can then use somethign like max/msp to get it to talk to ableton.

Live in Oakwood, used to work on Pride park.

Yeah I had a look at those boards. Look interesting. Need to free up some time to get stuck in though.

diy monodeck

Post by odyssey1987 » Tue Mar 04, 2008 3:52 pm

Guys i already mentioned to some people, but if you have the time, you could make your own monodeck, or maybe even something better, the guy that made it used midi interface modules form here: http://www.ucapps.de/ as long as you have or know someone that has a little electronics knowladge, it would be no problem, full instructions are provided, ive designed my own studio / live controller, just need the time to put it together, you could also check out: http://www.audiomulch.com/midipic/ they have lots of diy midi projects, which you could adapt to suite your needs.

just wait for multi touch macbook or similar.. then the whole world will change. that circle synth (made by FAW) looks as though it's designed with that in mind.
