pad does not assign receive note when 'group to drum rack'

I right clicked on a simpler in a drum rack and chose "group to drum rack' and the note was assigned to c1 instead of the note the pad was assigned to

I agree something is funky with this

however I almost think the sub rack in this case should be set to c3->c3 (if a simpler is the device playing the sample)

presumbaly on the main drum rack for that chain it is c2->c3

yes true!

actually I realised after I posted maybe what should be happening is when the 'group to drum rack' process is called then the first chain should be automatically set to 'all'

however in this specific case that doesn't help with the triggering note because if the sub-rack chain defaults to c1, then what good does sending all notes through do? set to 'all' it's still c1 which will trigger the sound, when you want c2

but it must be set to 'all' for the actual sample names to find their way out to the pads.

so I do think you're right, that in general if you group to a sub-drum rack that the original chain should get changed to 'all'

I assume that in your picutre, the reason that "Ride 1" is visible on the pad, even though you say that chain is not set to 'all', is that you've actually named the chain..

Yeah I named the chain - in truth I forgot the name would carry through

but you're right, there are 2 steps involved here

maybe you were right in the first instance - if it just defaulted to C3 on the assumption that if you are using the 'group to drum rack' feature then the existing device you are applying it to is already something close to what you would name it

incidentally, the main reason I used this function was so I could duplicate the same device and then change the copy and have them layered together - that can't be done with pads

yes, you totally can...

ctrl+drag a chain in the list, and it makes a copy.. the pad switches to say "multi"

then you can tweak one of the chains to have different settings.

oh you mean the main chain - yes - duh! I dont know why I temporarily forgot that...
