for piano I tend to use whatever came in the kontakt or EWQL packs, but theres a great sounding vst out there (whos name I cant recall) that emulates piano VERY well.
For brass I use actual brass phrases found in liquid instruments or "from the jazz tip" or any other brass samples I can find and put it through melodyne to sculpt my own melodies. Best way to do it short of hiring a session player.

arhh thats interesting as i never use samples of brass as they need to be in key with the rest of the music, so you actually use melodyne to shift them to the correct pitch and recreate swells etc
Piano is a big problem as i dont need classical it needs to be warm and thick, ive used hypersonic 2 but its not great,
ive not got kontakt myself, ive seen alot of piano plugs but they are massive and i dont think i need this really,
strings is another problems really, thanks for the brass tip, much appreciated !!

I'm sure it can be useful but I dont think its so great for deeper variants of house music. Its good for the in-your-face ducking style effects you get in french house, but with soulful house the musical structure is more about melody than attitude so it doesnt make much sense to duck out the elements of the track with every beat. Never discount any technique though, if you're creative I'm sure you can find a good use for it in any context.
yeah i hear what your saying there, but maybe very light use of this technique gives your track room to breath etc,
on youtube they show you it with a pad and a rhodes and it does sound quite smooth, its not an obvious effect, but it just blends with the music, rather than sitting on top of the drums,
anyone else use side chain for other than drum /bassline effect ?

the grand piano one comes with Sampler is good - but big
you can hear it here with the simple delay from Live:

kontakt has a couple of good ones as well
I own both but I always use the one from Sampler...
