beginner question..can i use external effect for one track?

Post by ki » Wed Mar 05, 2008 5:19 pm

ok, so this might sound very dumb, i don't know too much about technical side of ableton (or what each technical term means in the manual). just scratching my head.

i have a motu multichannel audio card. and i got an external effector (actually it's the effects from pioneer djm800) i want to use for just ONE track in ableton. and all coming out to master track. how do i hook this up? is it possible??

and please tell me in easier terms, sometimes i even have hard time understanding the answers here unfortunately..

thanks--

This is very easy to do, and you can find out the whole deal by reading the User Guide, but the short version:

Use the Audio Effect called "External Audio Effect", and place it on the track you want it to affect.

Send one set of your outputs on your sound card to the ins on the ext. effect, and route the out of the effect to inputs on your soundcard. Make sure your I/O paths are active and working for your soundcard if you haven't already.

Next, route the ins and outs within the Ex. Audio Effect, and you should be hearing your signal with effects. Keep in mind that if your effect unit is not turned on, you will not hear audio.
