I swear by Behringer Truth Actives myself .
Laugh all you want people I'd like to see anyone here find a better sounding active monitor with that frequency response for the price.

That said after mastering (well as well as I can  ) I usually check my mixes through a vintage Luxman Amp and a pair of Tannoy REDS
15" dual concentric monitors - mind you these are actually kept for listening to classical music and acoustic stuff I buy at record stores.
Stunning sounding speacker but very expensive.

So I can report the Behringer Truth mixes translate very well to the Tannoys and by Surround Sound System. My now 14 year old Sony Mini Shel HiFi (first one they released with small turntable and cdplayer) doesn't cope with the bass response to well these day though.

Excuse me I digress.[/i]
My aren't the wings of butterflies beautiful and do they not make wonderful perturbations.....

I have a pair of Tannoy Reveal passives and they cost me £110. Thats about $196 USD.

I highly recommend them.

i've been using Tannoy Proto-J's for 4 years now. They are basically ported Reveal Passives without the magnetic shielding. I keep them a good distance from my CRT's and they are fine. they cost me $180 4 years ago on sale. got the Samson Servo 260 at the same time on sale for $220. if the Reveal actives are going that cheap these days - i say grab those, and a good amp. or the KRK RP6's

If you grab actives you wont need an amp. Just grab a small mixer like the Alesis 6FX so you don't blow your monitors. Never plug actives straight into your soundcard. :)

My first pair of monitors was Reveal Passives.

If you're happy with yours, I'd be the last person to try and change your setup.

But for new monitor buyers I'd also add that while I think they sound absolutely great, they sound great in a way that makes them good listening speakers., as in, I didn't like to mix on them.

Frequently (now, not all the time mind you, but consider our "way under $1000" price points, here), but frequently inexpensive speakers will be ported to fake up the bass a little bit. Again, I think it sounds cool, but it makes mixing a bit like shadow boxing. Where are you *really*.

Again, respect to all and all's setups --I hate gear bashing--this is just another point of view to ponder.
