Hotplugin FW 400 peripherals in any Computer is not a good idea by default...

Got friends that fried their external HD like this and what's worse, burnt their laptop's FW port.

Deep pain.

Hard drives, camcorders, et al should all be no problem to hot swap (especially on a Mac). But...Audio interfaces seems to be an exception to every rule though.

ie. Firewire is hot-swappable - NP. That is one of its design charactetistics..
But....this is not always the the case with Audio interfaces.. you got to know your gear.
Show your gear show respect and treat it nicely.. it will last longer and perform better. So if it needs to be plugged in and turned on first...oh well.

Personally,I can hot swap my Fa-66 under 10.4.9 OSX. I did the first time setting up & scared the shat out of my Dell buddy - he practically had a stroke...but it didnt even jolt the monitors. (But I would never do that with a Hard Drive.. with all my data).

Good Luck
2.8ghz Quad Mac, Live 9.77, Remote25, Maschine 1, Fa-66 optical link, Samson 65a. Dog hair.. lots.
