Frankfurt Musik Messe?

Or did I mean the CPX? Which one has the larger body size? That's the one I want, I tried both but like the sound of the bigger version more than the other one, both are great though.

No offense to you guys. But when I hear "MusikMesse", I wonna hear something exciting!

Something crazy like: "Yamaha, Roland and Korg have teamed up to make a groovebox that sucks less then any of their previous models." or "Cycling announces Max 5, Pluggo and a new generative composition algorithm called Alzheimer. Ableton announces Live 7.5 with support for Vista, processing nodes and Timur. Together Cycling and Ableton announce "Lavender". Nobody is quite sure what it is or what it does, but it costs 299€ and you can stack it."

Well, here we are back at the core of this thread: Are there any "exciting" reasons to go to Musikmesse Frankfurt?

If the Messe sucks, go make some party!
Last time i went there was a shitload of good partys, the cocoon is great und ne reise wert. On the other hand driving 250 km sucks ass.
And Ffm is expensive if you have to stay in a hotel, need public transportation etc. But its also funny seeing *non-computer* musos doing silly stuff. The chinese are funny too as well as the cheapo booths (with cheapo products) located in the shittiest places available.
Oh, and the lighting (visual fx, et.) hall (prolight & sound or omething?) is THE SHIT!

Any self-respecting geek would have never asked the question to begin with.

If you knew now what the reasons for going to Messe 2008 are, then why would they need to hold the damn event anyway?

That's what I was thinking. Is there a reason NOT to go to Musikmesse and look at all the new goodies?

Now, is there something fundamentally new anyway besides little gadgets? Surely it would be fun just to strive through the halls and look at all the blinking lights, but for my very basic needs I have seen little to none announcements. Ableton will show Live 7 without putting much Midi stress on their system, RME will show their ExpressCard Multiface/Digiface card, Korg will show its Zero line, Steinberg will show .1, I guess Max 5 will be shown (?!), everyone will show their mics (not much new on that front), everyone will show their mixers (neither there).

Let me ask the other way round, what do you expect to find exciting at Musikmesse?

Concerning the prices for hotels, you don't have to pay premium to get premium. Two years ago I happened to stay for two nights in Frankfurt just when the Musikmesse took place (I was there to fetch a tv I bought on Ebay and have a nice weekend with my Lady) and we got into a 4 star hotel for a steal.

Don't go on the public days - pretend you're professional engineer and go on a trade day - much better!! Nice 'Pro' atmosphere everywhere, and if you give some attitude people think you're a 'big name'

You seem to be constantly missing the point.
Nobody really knows in advance if its going to be worth it.
Messe usually sucks. So does NAMM.
But every now and then, an announcement comes out about something you want to see/feel/touch right away.
Its almost exactly a year after Ableton and Cycling made their announcement. The announced it at Messe 2007...

Will it be worth it? Who knows? Maybe you?

WTF am I doing? Trying to talk a Nerd into going to a Geek convention....

I'm hoping that Korg finally release that updated electribe that I've been predicting they would announce for the last couple of years.

The machine I'm envisoning would complie the best of the EMX with the ESX and have a USB host and forgo the inclusion of a smart media slot for storage. It seems like a no brainer...

And that's the problem, I'm not a Nerd, going through halls of shiney stuff doesn't mean a thing to me. I'm mostly turned on by results that come out of gear, not by the gear itself, with very few exceptions. And most of the stuff we are usually talking about here is like cheap toys compared to the real heavy-duty and heavy-dollares professional gear. 300 Euro for a DAW, 1200 Euro for 8 preamps + AD/DA converters, c'mon, that peanuts.

But fortunately it is because it enables us to do our thing with the MP3 concious consumer in mind.
