it is VERY tongue in cheek BTW.

i think all that hairspray in the 80's made the hole in the ozone. i don't think the ozone layer can withstand another decade of aquanet.
i have heard that a bunch of young bands in L.A. have been trying to bring back the glam rock scene. plus so many hair bands are doing reunion tours.
in the 90's there was a big 70's retro fad. any 80's revival would probably be like that, just a sort lived fad. that "hipsters & trendsetters" will be into.

the 80s crap has started already - plenty of fashion victims in nyc looking like they stepped out of 'Fame' or an old Madonna video.
now the question is, how long before the people ditch their adam ant pants and/or big hair in favor of flannels and wait with bated breath for the Soundgarden reunion tour?

everyone seems to obsessed with "bling bling" these days. i think the "greed is good" attitude of the 80's fits right in with the way things are these days.Rx wrote:the 80s crap has started already - plenty of fashion victims in nyc looking like they stepped out of 'Fame' or an old Madonna video.

but maybe people will get sick all that crap. then grunge will be ready for a comeback. hopefully soundgarden will have a reunion tour too. if we are lucky the melvins and tad could open for them.

i was speaking to a friend last night about how the 'bling-bling' hip hop thing has really large parallels to the 'big hair' metal scene in the late 80's.
all obsessed with self image and totally believing their own hype.
if this cyclical pattern keeps going then i guess we can logically asume that their will be some anti-bling backlash in the fairly near future, and something along the lines of the Nirvana revolution will again take place... but maybe this time in some form of edgy-hip hop/r'n'b thing... like the grunge sounds revolted against that 80's metal sound.
i don't know.... just thinking out loud here really...
what do you people reckon? where is the next big musical revolution coming from? .....maybe us laptoppers !

i have been thinking the same thing for a while now. i'm so glad i'm not the only one who sees these connections.am wrote:i was speaking to a friend last night about how the 'bling-bling' hip hop thing has really large parallels to the 'big hair' metal scene in the late 80's.

the formula for a hair band - 4 good looking rockers, a single about "rocking all night and partying all day". a video with scantily clad girls.
the formula for bling bling hop - good looking crew of rappers, a single about being a player and partying all night (or being the toughest gangsta and clubbing). a video with scantily clad girls.
sure i'm over simpifying things, but that is really what it boils down to a formula for success. there is little concern for making great music. it's all busness.
