How happy are you with m-audio's axiom

Been thinking about getting the M-audio Axiom 49.....anyone want to comment on the ease of use and their experiance with it? Is it worth the $ for a control surface alone (I've got a keystation....and a Trigger finger). It would be nice to have it all in one.....

I have an Axiom 49.

It's okay.

The keys are good. Pads are okay... not exactly an mpc but pretty close. Not too impressed with the sliders. The knobs seem a little stiff. Maybe they just aren't broken in yet.

The Enigma editor works fine. Having to upload the settings each time you make an adjustment is annoying.

I'm happy with it. I feel I got what I paid for.

I have the 49.

Excellent value and a good all round keyboard controller.

Build quality is good, especilly compared to older m-audio keyboards. I bash the shit out of the pads. The whole thing is reassuringly heavy. The faders are pretty small and light, but they do the job fine.

Rotaries are the only issue for me. They accel curves range from ultra slow, to .. still quite slow, so you'll need to turn them a lot to get from 1-127.

The "dents" on the rotaries don't bother me at all, and they wear down a bit over time, which is nice.

The pads also take a while to break in. At first you really need to bash them, but they soften up a little over time too.

I've had an Axiom 25 for about 7 months now, overall I've been really impressed with it although I haven't used it as much as I thought I would before buying it. The build quality and feel of the keys is outstanding. It's not as portable as I thought it would be though, it's really bulky next to something like an Oxygen. All in all I can't be anything but impressed by the quality of it for the price I paid, though (still seems like a value at over ~$200 new which is what I paid).

I'v had the Axiom 25 for about 2 weeks now and I like it alot. The keys feel good, it's small enough to chuck in my backpack, it's sturdy, and I'm not really a pianist so it's great for simple chords and general messing about.

I wish the axiom 25 had faders instead of pads though. Seriously those 8 drum pads really suck. I'm compairing them to the trigger finger and the PadKontrol of course. So aside from that, it's good bang for ur buck.

Can't complain for a portable controller under 200$ and wrapped in tons of support from ableton and m-audio.

A few month ago i bought this controller and the fact that the knobs feels like eight unfaithful, uncontrollable, and noisy devils at my finger tips have turned me off. I'm buying something else soon.

To the people that like it. I'm impressed that you got it to work good.

Love mine - short throw faders are great for switching effects on/off. Think I'll check out the Yahoo! group...

Got it since yesterday but have already made good use of it. I like the feel of the keys. I'm not really happy with the encoders but for that I use my BCF2000 in fact.

I have the Axiom 25 and it works great with Live. It's not a piece of junk. My only criticism is that it's hard to edit the controllers without the software. Like if I want to put a CC to a knob, pad, or note, I would have to do it through the Enigma software. It can be done without the software but, after 8 months I still haven't bothered to learn how to do it. It comes with a PDF user manual instead of a printed one. The Korg padkontrol and Akai MPD24 are really easy to edit without their software editors. They also come with printed manuals..

I'm pleased with my mines...i've actually heard if u use ur rotaries enough, the clicky-ness goes away...haven't really mastered it yet though...

my colleague sold it because it was so hard to program and when changing patches it would need like one or two seconds to load. Not good if you wnt to switch fast between different patches in a song.

It's lovely but there is a big mistake: the encoders!!

I just don't use them because i can't control them properly enough. They three different 'accelerations'... sounds good but... either they have acceleration, which prety much sucks because makes more difficult to fine control them (and not so 'fine'), or when using the curve 1. In this case they don't have acceleration BUT you need to turn them 1000 times see the controlled parameter vary a little bit!! Useless unless you wanna go very very fine...

theonly thing i liked were the keys.
nice feel. much better than the oxygen.
however the pads and sliders sucked the big one.

what was even worse was the editing software and programming the unit to change banks.

big waste of time and money.

returned it and paid extra for a microkonrol.

much better.

now looking back and konwing more i wouldnt have dicked around.
I would have dropped more $$$ for the NOVATION REMOTE SL, but prices have dropped substantially.
