if you mean that each of the samples in a kontakt instrument can't be processed independently and have each their own comp/eq/whatever valu, you're wrong.just make each of them a group and unclick "edit all".

if you mean that they can't be routed to individual outputs into live, you're partitialy right. you'd then have to create an instrument for each (which can be a pain in the arse, agreed).

i  MRI.

that is my method of working now - play in the session view, get a few scenes, come up with a rough arrangement, then jam the scenes while recording. it is probably the easiest method of arrangement ever. like ethios said, then i go to arrange view and tweak away.

peedrooo: yah - i meant the instrument = individual out thang. i was SO looking forward to using the NI synth kits in kontakt, but it was too great a pain in the arse to have multiple instruments just to isolate all the sounds.

For output on the main instrument select "group"

Each group can have it's own seperate output - predifined by how many outs you have in the Options menu

Takes a minute to set-up but you can route all your individual drums / samples to their own outputs

ah - i will take a look at that. i've been curious since some the .nki's for the synth kits were programmed by MRI and such...

djadonis, i looked at the groups on kontakt, but the outputs are only in the instruments. can you be a bit more precise please where i can assign ouputs to individual groups?
that's really interesting....

In like 20 minute when get to the crib I can get a little more precise

but you have to make each slice / zone it's own group from the edit drop down menu from there when you click on each zone next to the right of the sampler button you should see a button which will let you assign that group to it's own output

but you have to remember to select groups as an output from the main instrument

hey man, thanks a lot, i never saw this!
never checked the 'group' option on main output... that's an invaluable tip!
cool... some more routing possibilities there...

You get the basic clips you want setup in Session, then hit the Record button and jam away! Everything you do will be recorded into Arranger view, so you get the spontaneity and inspiration of Session and the precision of Arrangement.
The secret to using Live is to treat it like an instrument. It takes practise and a willingness to explore for its secrets. I've found it very helpful to let go of trying to create what's been done before and allow myself to be open to the unique possibilities Live affords.
For instance, you can take a single kick drum sample, run it through Resonators and automated Filters and Delay, and get that great German house sound, ala MRI. I love that sound, even though its been done before...
The possibilites are endless...
Learning how to use EQ and Compression is an essential tool for mixing, especially House.
yeah, the beauty of live is the ability to jam stuff live and record it into the arranger. i get things set up and play around to get ideas of what i would like to do, record it into arranger, and then tweak effects and eqs to taste.

works like a charm and definitely keeps me from getting bored (which does tend to happen when drawing in notes on grids...bleh).
