"radio effect" for vox?

Post by dazzer » Tue Mar 11, 2008 1:36 pm

How can I get a "recorded off the radio" effect for a vocal I've just recorded using only Live 7, a pair of hairdressing scissors and a kitten?

(the last part of the above question can be ignored)

cheers.

Some narrow bandpass filtering and a hint of distortion may do the trick.

Failing that, you could shell out for Speakerphone.

thanks for the replies.

spending any money at the moment really is out of the question.

I'm trying autofilter on it now, randomly sweeping it around. kind of got the sound I'm looking for, tho any more suggestions welcome.

EQ3 midnight setting, use a bit of saturator mebbe for fuzziness, maybe a little gate as well.

filtering / eq is the way...

no bass at all, and cut some highs as well, the 'high mids' is what you want... sweep around a little and then add some low fi to it, something like a bitcrusher, distortion... that should get you there.

yep, filtering and eq'ing is doing it well enough for my needs.

as a side note, the vocal i'm using the effect on is me and a mate for a dreadful "funny" jingle that we're doing. i've just listened to it about 100 times. with bedtime looming, drastic action is needed to get this shite out of my head. so, time for a smoke on the sofa with something decent on the headphones.

Use an iPod & iTrip and record it off the radio.
All the gear but no idea.

100% spot on! EQ Three - Midnight will do the trick. Then if you want, add Vinyl Distortion - crack, for a scratch sound.
