First thing, DON'T go to SAE Institute. They are a scam. They take you money, tell you some bullshit (usually 50% incorrect) and hand you a WORTHLESS non standard qualification at the end of it. Trust me, I wasted nearly £5000 there. It's a complete scam. I attended the Glasgow branch.

As Einstein noted these things are relative.

Don't worry about it.

Well you beat me to it.

The thing to remember about these audio engineering schools is this:

If you're any good as an engineer, how come you ended up teaching at SAE?

The music industry has absolutely no interest in diplomas, unless you fancy making a living editing station idents at County Sound local radio, and the stuff you really need to know, they can't teach you.

I'll teach you everything you need to know, one-to-one, for half the price.

:)

By the way, age is pretty irrelevant as long as you're into music and not haircuts.

I released my first album at 35, and now, five years later, I'm making my living playing my own music and DJing.

I have a friend who is 67 and still writing, releasing and gigging with a band who consistently sell 30 - 40,000 albums each time they release. He runs a label, DJs banging psy-trance and is a virtuoso flautist.

He is showing no signs of giving up. The only difference these days is that he asks for oxygen on his rider instead of cocaine.

That's some serious inspirational stuff there. I think some of our heroes are a lot older than we might think and getting started later then we think. This might be partly due the young crowd that flock to their music.

I'm still going to laugh my ass off when I'm 80 and going to the old people lounge for some classic breaks.

No shit???
I've always imagined you as being some young spotty geek with a native instruments antenna strapped to your head

44 here,, last Sunday in fact

I'm another guitar player that has turned the corner into computer based electronic music. My problem was that i didn't get along with other people in a band situation, especially if those people had aspirations beyond their abilities and this handicap was over shadowed and masked by over developed egos.

I'm slowly getting my shit together building a live rig based around live, some midi controllers, and maybe my PodX3L and a guitar.

It's never too late to start.

I won't listen to an MC unless they're at least 30.

Not even close. My friends' kids usually refer to me as "that furry dude" or "that old hippie", depending on the situation and how much they think they can get away with...

I hear you on all accounts. I'm primarily a guitar player myself. I've played synths and taught synthesis for a long time, but I've never been much of a keyboard player. As for the whole computer trip, I didn't even have one until 2001, when a friend of mine gave me an old Pentium 1. I made the mistake of downloading the SyncModular demo, and I was hooked; I went out and bought a new PC, Sonar and Reaktor. It's all been downhill ever since
