New track. Justice ripoff.

Post by Sivle » Wed Mar 12, 2008 6:16 am

It's about 80% done. Still needs fills and better arrangement but I think the thrust is there.

it's well justicey, i only listened to half cause it took so long to load, so can't comment on arrangement i were to be constructive i would say the piano (recording/vst) sounds a little dull. but i guess you haven't mixed it properly yet.

but cool, i like it

nice! nice bassline very funky, i can hear what the other guy means about the piano, abit of widening will sort that out :)

i wouldnt call it a justice ripoff - give yourself some more credit than that, its really good :D

hey this is funky

it is justicey but more unique, however i dont think the drums sound really close to justice etc in terms of punch..

but overall pretty cool work!

yeah nice work!

i think the beginning is a bit justice, but from 2.50 on it really hits its stride.

like the vocals - did you sing them or sample them? want to get some vocals like that!

only other comment is the bassline. really funky - the riffs work well, but i think the sound could be made to a bit more organic/analogue. maybe vary the velocities a bit more and mess with velocity parameters in level, filter, decay etc. then you could layer the sound with a slightly distorted analogue synth (bass station, prophet 53 etc) to give it a bit more interest.

then some compression ... a bit of pumping side chain action?

Thanks everybody. The mix isn't sorted yet and I've got some more arranging to do. Definately needs some sidechaining and a proper eq on the master bus. I agree that the piano lacks a little life. Good criticism. The bass sound has already been replaced by a CS-80v patch I made up a few months ago. It benefits from a more responsive filter velocity which adds quite a bit of subtle frequency "whipping" on the simulated thumb plucks, but retains the character of the original patch. As far as the vocals, it's the accapella from one of our tracks. It's cut up and spread over two impulse tracks.

It is a little Justice-y
But it's also really good. Great work on all of the individual parts, I am sure when you get the final polish on this it's going to be totally killer.

Somethings up with my sidechain comp (Twisted Lemon Sidekick). Any decently high res sidechain comps available besides it and that little red free one? I'm on L6 so I think my options are limited.

Really Like it.

Something to try: Replace the Piano (which feels a bit flat funk-wise) and replace it with a Rezzy saw tooth with a lot of glide and a bit of vibrato. Think "Funky worm"

Add a few filter sweeps to build tension.

Maybe it will work.

Song has a good groove.

The vocals and groove are winners. Definitely worth putting time into the track.
