i know live is suppose to be awesome for dj'ing and everything but, what if you make rock music? any idea's on how to play shows with out a band using live?
i know i could get a midi foot controller and trigger samples but i only have two feet and one is used for standing when playing guitar and the other for stomping on effects.
i was thinking just playing acoustic but i dont really like acoustic music.
there is the just get a band option but i have done that and usually the other band members just want to talk about how awesome it will be to be a rock star and they really cant play anything i make. they mostly just want to jam while being drunk.
so is there anyone that plays solo that does rock?
i know it will look corny but i dont give a shit anymore.

Hi, empathy here.

1. I guess, the obvious route would be to look into the whole Live-as-Looper-Tool performance thing.

That's one loooong catch-up read, though.

2. The other one I can think of, is outside Live with some of these "Guitarists" plugins: I know my ultra-cheap m-audio external USB soundcard came with a few demos and straight plugins specifically meant to serve as sort of live Jam pals. Providing (weak,sampled) rhythm or harmony backing ...

.... but that type of performance comes dangerously close to Uncle Harry's one-man's wedding gig what with all sequenced stale stuff.

I'm having a solid try at it with my monome-in-a-guitar instrument (www.mesmero.net) ... for me it's too early to tell.

I have been pondering a similar question as a guitar player. I just have not got time to do the band thing. I am really new to Live so I am forming ideas not based on the specifics of Live's abilities, ie looping etc, but more on the place Live would have in a solo performance. Its subtle but it is important for me. Will Live form the basis of my developing 'gig' or will it enhance and support my guitar playing and performing. The video that beats me posted is very cool. The guy has put some serious effort into sorting out his gig. I really like it alot. However, for me I would like to find a way to partner with Live that is less reliant on creating a musial jigsaw puzzle with looping layers and more supportive of the guitar playing skill. I hope you all understand what I mean. At some point in time the looping thing will be in danger of getting old and tierd. Cheers. G.

I'm the guy in the video that beats me posted. When the video was shot, I would create all the parts and elements of the song and then proceed to perform it. Recently, I felt the need to change that, so I've recorded most of the loops in my studio. That way I get to focus more on the songs and the performance, plus the overall sound of my set has improved vastly. I still do live loops, but only of my vocals since that's my main instrument.
I put effects on my backing tracks using the BCR2000. I can select which tracks are sent through the fx bus, and I have filter sweeps, saturation, beat repeat that I can use in real time. For me, at least, that's a good way to add some dynamics to the sequenced stuff.
