Logic Arrangements

Does anyone know how to import an arrangement created in Logic to Live 7?
Just transfered to Live for gigs and trying to get used to it.

I have managed to do this for entire songs before with success, but you godda do some manual work. This version I give here means that you do not have to work with bounced audio, this more intensive conversion process will work with the MIDI data.

The first thing to know is that you cannot just load songs from one program into another - audio seems to be full of closed standards - and I can't see people adhering to an open song format any time in the near future.

This is the process that I use to get stuff from Logic to Live:

1.) Export all of the midi clips for each track in Logic - just select the whole time-range you are interested in and I can't remember the exact menu option as I am currently at work but it is something like "Export selected as MIDI". You will have to do this once for each track. Name the files the same as your track names in Logic so you can find them for the next part....

2.) Bring all of these MIDI tracks into Live one by one by dragging and dropping their icons onto the Live window - live will create one MIDI track per MIDI clip.

3.) You really need to be using 3rd party VST Instruments in Logic to do this properly, but you can simply save out your instrument presets within Logic, insert the same instrument into the corresponding MIDI track in Live, and reload the preset. Copy over the volume settings for that track and mimick your Send/Return settings manually and it should sound exactly the same if you get it right.

4.) In effect you just recreate the entire thing again, but not quite from scratch as having the ability to ferry over the midi data is really useful and saves time.

I have done this successfully to get my older tunes from Logic to Live so I can work on them in the nicer Live environment, and can now perform the entire process for one track in its entirety in about 1 night. With a little practice it is not that hard to do.
