Is migration assistant the best way to go from my old 2.7Ghz G5 to my new to me mid 2007 2.2Ghz MBP? Should I start from scratch instead?
Or should I use my install discs for Logic Studio, Ableton Live 6, Komplete 5 & the Gforce bundle & use the assistant for the rest?
The G5 has 2 x 250 Gig drives with a total of 250 Gig being used The MBP only has the one 120 Gig drive. I'll be using an external firewire drive of course.
Logic's content, Stylus RMX & N.I.'s sample libraries take up a lot of space.
Please advise.
Thanks

IMHO Migration Assistant is one of the modern miracles of computer science. Upgrading computers in OS9 days used to be SUCH a pain. It's a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. You can always delete anything superfluous after the fact.
The only thing that might mitigate against it is if you're still using older Power PC versions of your apps. But you're using the most up-to-date Universal Binary versions, aren't you?

It's pretty uncanny to see your old world up and running on completely new hardware - desktop pic 'n' all!

Many of my apps are Universal Binary but not all. Should I update them before the migration?
The G5 is running OS 10.4.11, the MBP is OS 10.5.2.

If you update your apps to UB while on the G5 it should be a nice simple automated process. Then the migration assistant will also be a nice simple, automated process.
Although it is probably just as simple to update your PowerPC apps on the Intel machine, I myself would update first, then let the wisdom of Apple handle the changeover. I think that would guarantee the most seamless transition.

i recently migrated my managers new imac from an older imac. that older imac was migrated from an even older imac a couple of years ago!
in this instance the brand new imac just seems too slow and i really think it would of benefited from a fresh install. perhaps that is obvious considering the situation but for me there's just something about freshly installing the software you need onto a new machine

Are you certain there aren't any PowerPC apps running under Rosetta on the new iMac? Just a thought.

I did the migration thing from my MB to MBP, and didn't like duplicating the disorganized mess I had spent years creating!
I reformatted and re-installed all applications, and the result is a much tidier, more organized and streamlined system.
