anyone using VMware fusion?
anyone using VMware fusion?
so I just got windows xp running on my imac, in fact I am typing this in internet explorer. couple of problems...
no firewire, so my motu 8pre can't talk to it
huge latency when I used the keyboard as a controller.
when I plugged in my padkontrol, it seemed to recognize it, but could not midimap anything. pressed the pads and no sound came out.
do the alternatives (crossover, fusion) not have these problems?
I have heard boot camp is okay but I do not want to upgrade to leopard.
edit: this is now about VMware fusion. still having the same midi issues.

I use Parallels on my MBP, runs Wavelab for all my mastering, using an Ultralite as well. No issues at all, I frequently use heavy CPU plug ins on 24/96 files with no issues at all.
One note, Parallel is a RAM hog! You need at least 2GB of RAM to use it well, otherwise it's going to crawl like you see.

live 7 on parallels
I think this question is a good one. I use Windows for my main compositin rig so many of my plugins are also for Windows. Voxengo only makes many of their programs for windows. What is the current status of running Live under virtualization, is anyone doing this, and how is the performance.
also, any midi or audio issues? drivers and interface issues? thanks very much

I just saw a fairly informative comment on an unrelated topic by the user Monksdream on CDM - hope he doesn't mind me reposting it here & I think it answers a question or two - did for me:

I avoid Boot Camp altogether and use VMWare Fusion. It’s hands-down the most rock solid Windows virtualization I’ve ever used on the Mac platform. You can check it out here:

I understand Parallels has gotten better in the time since I tried it but I have no experience with its recent version.
The problem with Boot Camp is that you either boot your Mac to OS X OR Windows. Fusion lets you run both at the same time. Windows runs as a virtual machine in a Window on your Mac. I tend to run it full screen on a second monitor. Both Windows and OS X see the virtual machine (VM) as a separate machine that can share resources. For instance, I have one USB interface routed to the Windows machine and another routed to the Mac and I have no trouble running plug-ins on both at the same time.
Good luck!

I am trying fusion. everything works okay, I connected an old usb interface I used a couple of years ago. but I'm still having midi problems. in live, the midi controllers are just showing up as "USB Device" and not the name of the controller. I cannot map anything but the midi on indicator at the top right lights up when I move or press something.
