The exact meaning is (and I discussed it this week with Franky Jones famous Belgian Dj and producer) Techno so hard and "disturbed" that only a small amount of people really like it. A good example is Dj Rush.
Just looping and banging techno around the hardcore bpm's .. It's stupid I think. Younger people can have some fun on it but when you make and play music it's a little bit over the top.

I don't think that Schranz is stupid music and just for teenagers.
I come from guitar/industrial and started making electronic music later. So sometimes I'm tired of all these lovely melodies, claps and pads.
Did you ever recognize that listening to the sound of a machine is some kind of hypnotic? I like that esp. when I am going to sleep.
Chris Liebing made an album last year called "evolution". It's not just Bassdrum, Open Hihat and 140 bpm. Sometimes it's more interesting to listen to noise than listening to the same chords and arrangements (my opinion about the pop/electronic approach) again and again.
Cheers R.

Like 50% of the sample's used in the evolution album come from the movie 'johnny english'.
I guess shranz is respectable in a way, but i get tired of it soon. I dont even go to dj rush his performance's unless it's live. The only productions by rush that sound good these days are the dave clarke remixes. I'm more a Sven Vath kinda guy myself. I like diversity in party's. dj's that play good classics, new bombs and stuff you never heard of before.
Shranz is just to easy. If your a type that listens to the music and try's to hear whats in it. shranz may be a disapointment. Or maybe i'm just getting to old for this shit.
It's all music, but sometimes it's just too simple.

I've heard this debate before from Hip-Hop guys saying techno music is so easy to make that they wouldn't waste their time trying to recrerate it, yet they themselves couldn't put together 3 minutes of danceable loopshoffman2k wrote: It's all music, but sometimes it's just too simple.
interesting
I like really hard loopy techno, and CL has a definite knack for what he's doing - maybe he's using some really sick Reaktor Ensemble or something, I don't know but I buy most CLR records when they come out -
One record that really blows up that's kinda old is that Christian Smith and John Selway track "Weather" the Remixs on Primate (The silver one) -
OMG I was so drunk like 3 years ago at the Tronic Treatment party in florida and I was like "C'mon Christian play Weather, play Weather!" and he was "Oh, I don't have enough time" plus I tried to sneak into the DJ Booth and they were like "uh, sorry mate. You can't be in here." Later that night me and my buddy took a parking meter out of the ground and threw it in someones yard when we realised we couldn't break it open - ahhhh, Florida

I was angry, confused and scared so I made a song that fit what Iw as going through at the time - it's no Chris Liebing or Dj Rush but it's me
it's on my myspace page - S-UD7

Repetitive music doesn't have to be boring, it's like a fuge, a variation on a theme, what the composer does with those repeating elements to build and release tension at will. Then again, some music is written to sound good while high, that's where the scene is at its weakest.
Cool tune Adonis, outro was abrupt.

My opinion is good techno - or loopy music should have a really strong loop
guys who are just amazing at this are Ben Sims and Chris Liebing
I know it sounds kind of obvious but you really need a strong loop and very effective change ups - as easy as some would think it is - it aint...
thanks DKF - I can do something about that ending I think
later

Oh wow - you can look schranz up in wikipedia perhaps you can do the same with (takes big gulp) heroin housethelike5 wrote:If Schranz is loopy, repetititive techno, then what is heroin house?
(I've heard this term in refering to Basic Channel, Deep Chord (faves), etc.)
I would imagine druggy, repetitive house grooves with looks of lazy type dubbed out effects - maybe 120 - 128 groovy stuff
I don't know, and don't know if I want to know

I thought I remembered from the History of House videos that the DJ would crank up the BPM while on heroin because it sounded slow to him. Ironic how drugs always fuck up a music scene.djadonis206 wrote:I would imagine druggy, repetitive house grooves with looks of lazy type dubbed out effects - maybe 120 - 128 groovy stuffthelike5 wrote:If Schranz is loopy, repetititive techno, then what is heroin house?

Heroine house is whatever Wonder Woman decides to play on any given night.
