Using Ableton to headphone queue like on a DJ mixer

Post by maxplanck » Sat Mar 22, 2008 4:36 pm

I want to be able to queue clips in Ableton's session view in my headphones, like I would be able to do with records if I was DJing using a DJ mixer.

I am using the Presonus Firebox, so I can route a stereo output from Ableton to the Firebox's headphone jack.

Basically, I need to route the output from one stereo channel to 2 sets of stereo outputs, and have independent control over the volume of each stereo output.

I tried using a send set to PRE and routing the output from the send to my headphones, this works. I can control the master volume and the headphone volume for that channel independently.

However, is there a better way? Does Ableton have a built in feature that may work better for this?

I know that I can simply route a channel's audio to the "external out" channel that I have routed to my headphones. However, then it won't be routed to the main output anymore.

Thanks, any help would be much appreciated

Can't you just set the Cue Out to the channels you are using for your headphones and then use the solo/cue buttons on the tracks, plus the Preview/Cue volume. Simple, but maybe I'm missing something in your question?
