Using Live as a sample editor

Post by evergrain » Mon Mar 24, 2008 3:04 pm

Hi.

i'm just wondering, if any of you use Live as a sample editor?

I always used Soundforge, and have used Live since v1 for loop and
sequencing tricks until eventually Live took over as my main audio sequencer,
but I still use Soundforge when using PC.

Thing is, I recently bought a macbook pro for stage use, and video production,
but it has kind of taken over as my studio computer, and Soundforge isn't
available on Mac. I've had a go at Bias Peak I'm not sold on it.

I know live can do the job soundforge can, but I know I'm missing a few shortcuts that would be useful.

Is there a way to make the sequence loop markers automatically locate at the start and end of an audio clip in the sequencer? I need to be able to export non-quantised clips, and locating the markers to export at the start and end is a pain.
Ideally, it would be cool to be able to right click a clip and just export this audio, but thats not a feature is it?

hmmm... that's really all I need to know! ...

anyone?

Welcome!

I've just done the same thing. I bought an MBP for live us, and it's so fast, I moved everything from the G5 over the MBP.

You've got Boot Camp with your new MBP. Fire up Windows on your MBP, launch Soundforge, and off you go!

For minimal tweaking, I use Audacity. Simple, quick, and the price is right (free!) Tweak back and forth between Live and Audacity, and everything stays updated.

yeah, I have parallels installed.. Soundforge seems a bit sluggish on it though. And I'm getting glitches in the audio when recording. Should it run smoothly?
I heard audio apps have a problem with parallels and the like. I wouldn't be into having to boot into one or the other os either.

Thanks tho..

Can anyone answer the question about quickly snapping the sequencer loop in Live to a (unquantized) clip?
