Advanced scene-triggering solution?
Advanced scene-triggering solution?
Hi!
I got a tricky one for you...
I seem to have gone beyond the possibilities
of Live, but maybe some of you know an answer..?:
I wanna play live, just triggering drumloop with a midi-
masterkeyboard. The setup is very simple.
I trigger the loop, warp is turned off, i bounced readymade
loopfiles that play, until i want to trigger the ending.
That is a second file (in my case in the scene below the
normal loop).
What i want is to launch the scenes with my midi-keyboard
(no problem, one key for each loop), but trigger the
corresponding drum-ending with one single footpedal,
because i have to play at the same time......
So the footpedal should always launch different scenes,
the ones below the corresponding drumloop!
But when I trigger the original loop I have no possibility
that the scene-focus jumps one down automatically, when
assigned to a single midi-controll!
OR, I thought of a sollution, but i don't know if its possible:
I would press my footpedal and in Live there's then 2 controller-
values somehow... One for "Jump one scene down" and the
second for "launch scene". But how to make 2 midi controlls out
of one?
Thanks guys!!

If you are on a mac you need to set up the Inter-application communication (IAC) in the OSX audiomidi setup. goto spotlight and type 'midi', go to Audio Midi setup, then add IAC device
After this, start Live and go to live's MIDI prefs. For the IAC device set output to 'Track' and input to 'Remote'.
Create a MIDI track, and have the output go to IAC. Create a MIDI clip in that track and draw two notes in sequence, one after the other. MIDI map the first note to next scene. Map the second note to scene launch.
Finally, map the MIDI clip to your footpedal. You now have a control clip that will execute the MIDI actions when you press the pedal.
If you are on Windows I think you can accomplish a similar MIDI loopback with MIDI Yoke, but I'm not sure of the particulars.

maybe I misunderstood the question completely, but the way I understand it, what you're trying to do is really easy in live - go to midi assignment, and under the scene selection once you're in assignment mode there is a little "play" icon that isn't there normally. Assign that to your controller (or to a key on your keyboard to test it). It launches the selected scene and then moves the selection to the next scene so that you can launch that, so then all you have to do is arrange your scenes as you need them... verse, chorus, ending, space for between songs, etc etc.
Hope this helps

No, sorry, i badly described my problem in this case...
This is: I wanna play without actually having the laptop
in front of me. In this case I could easily assign a
controller knob to move through the scenes..
BUT I just wanna hit a note on my MIDI-Keyboard (on stage),
then the the loop automatically begins. Now when I hit
it I can choose that the current scene is highlighted, but
its inpossible to automatically move down one scene at
the same time (IS IT?), because I assign a different MIDI-
Note to each scene, and cannot double-assign it with the
arrow-down sign....
I could do this with another MIDI-Command but I have to do
it just with one Footpedal. So:
1) I wanna start the loop - I press
"C" on the MIDI-Keyboard -
2) I would have to press another
MIDI-Knob to go one scene down -
3) and then start the scene
one below the original-drumloop-scene, to play the end of the
beat.
Number 2 i have to get rid of. In any way.
Is the sollution really MIDI Yoke?
Thanx

BUT the problem is:tricil wrote:In live 6&7, you can assign more than one parameter (ie next scene&launch) to one control message (your sustain pedal for example.)
When you assign "launch next scene" and "play scene" to one Control
message, it first plays and then jumps to the next scene.
Is that editable, I guess not..
ok, maybe I'm being stupid and misunderstanding you, but using the method above (in Live 5, but as far as I remember its the same in live 6 and 7), I just checked and I'm able to move from scene 1 to 2 to 3 to 4, etc just by assigning in my case the letter "q" to the button I described above (scene launch in live 5 - i think its "play scene in 6 and 7) and pushing it repeatedly.
So, in your situation, I would set up the drum loop on scene 1, the outro on 2, then a gap on scene 3 (or not make the outro loop, in which case this is unnecessary), then the drum loop for the next song on scene 4, and so on. Then assigning the foot pedal to the button I'd push the pedal once to start the song, and once more to go to the outro thing, then again to start the next song.
Maybe I'm missing something, but that seems to be what you're describing, aside from the fact that you launch the first scene from the pedal instead of "C". Also, you wouldn't need to see your laptop for that.

Yeah, you're right, but in my case i have to trigger the scenes individually without looking at the monitor. So DrumLoop 1 is "C", Loop 2 is "D", Loop 3 is "E" and so on. To every Drumloop theres a corresponding Ending. And it always lies one scene below the original one. But i have to trigger them all with one Controller, my Footpedal...jhartford wrote:ok, maybe I'm being stupid and misunderstanding you, but using the method above (in Live 5, but as far as I remember its the same in live 6 and 7), I just checked and I'm able to move from scene 1 to 2 to 3 to 4, etc just by assigning in my case the letter "q" to the button I described above (scene launch in live 5 - i think its "play scene in 6 and 7) and pushing it repeatedly.

Or am I completely wrong?
um.... you can do it the way you're describing using midi translator and midi yoke together, and it'll work, but honestly its far more work than the method I've described and it'll achieve the same result.
Test the method I described, and then just make sure that your set is properly ordered so that each loop you need follows the previous one. The only (slight!) disadvantage of the method I described is that you have to have a pre-planned order of songs (though you could even get round that by mapping the launching of song's scenes to certain buttons on your keyboard).

i read this thread and found it very helpful in figuring out IAC. what I am not clear on is how to map a midi note to something else... any help?
thank you!

In preferences you can set "select next scene on launch" (or similar). Then assign your footpedal to the generic scene-playbutton. done.avwebern wrote:Yeah, you're right, but in my case i have to trigger the scenes individually without looking at the monitor.
