Post by muthafunka » Thu Sep 02, 2004 3:02 pm

Completely OT but just had to drop this on you guys 'n'gals..... I've got a gig on Japanese TV tomorrow night 'playing' bass for Ana Johnson's back band as she performs 'We Are' 'live'.
Mission plan? Totally rawk out and flail around like a muthafu*ka!!

LMAO Woo Hoo!!!

Most of the times I was seeing snipplets of Spidey2 ...

White P-Bass, black pickguard, rosewood neck.
muthafunka was one-fingering the 4th string all the way through, swinging around ... seemed like the bass amp (Ampeg cab, couldn't identify the head) wasn't even on ...

Hey, where's the acoustic guitar player I heard in the intro?

... Who the hell is Ana Johnson BTW?
And who are the other guys, your band members?

Incriminating after-show visual at http://www.snapfish.com/slideshow/Album ... 688094[img]

One finger and some whoop-whoop on the neck was all the song required! Of course it was 'ate-biki' (mimed) too...hence the lack of acoustic guitar, lack of audio cable in the back of the keyboard and flawless bass line!! Ana is.....'Sony's Swedish answer to Avril'. The band? A random bunch (of NICE guys) gathered by one of the agencies I work for.

cee-foo where you at and what you do?

wow, glad you're having so much fun!
i know i will now sound like a dick,
but are you sure you really want to support
corporate music in such a way?
i've spent my entire adult life (and teen years) supporting the arts...
entertainment is entertainment, yeah,
but shouldn't we draw the line somewhere?
isn't integrity more valuable than money?
not to be a downer, just thought you should ask yourself these questions.
don't bother posting an answer, tell yourself.
have a better day!
dk
p.s. save it, i won't be back to this thread...

Me? I'm a part-time graphic designer, part-time comp. tech advisor & live in Yokohama.

Actually I make more money working with other design firms, hooking up equipment, purchasing hardware, removing spyware & viruses, giving advice etc. (pathetic ...).

Damn, actually that show was one of the better ones (I got something out of it, at least I saw BoA doin' her thang :) ) ... the most hilarious one was when I saw the bass "plugged" into a Jazz Chorus and a guitar "plugged" into a 4x12 cabinet ...

@D K (probably you won't be reading this, but I'll just post it up)
What are your "arts" that you have supported?
My definition of "art" in a nutshell is "way of life" - more in the notion of "art" as in "martial arts".
I want you to look up the kanji for "BU DOU" (martial arts in Japanese).
The first kanji, "BU" means "martial", and the second kanji, "DOU" means "arts", but it also means "road, path, way".
IMO entertainment itself is an art within, preference put aside.

For example, I can't be in the place of Ana (or JTL).
I'm sure she has worked hard to earn her current position, taken lots of vocal training lessons, she has to keep up with her image.
I won't be able to cope with all that mass media hoopla.

Because of my job I get to meet a LOT of people in the "corporate music world", all of the people I've met are so into music they can keep talking about music for hours.
Sometimes I feel like the problem lies in the con-artists and the ignorant customers who is thinking in the {NEW=GOOD} equation ... {new:old} {cutting edge:trite} {good:bad} are totally different ... the greatest things surpass time ...

sh*t, I'm overheating ...
