Does live allow you to name physical MIDI ports or audio inputs/outputs for that matter? Example, if I have my 8 port MIDI interface connected can I name the ports so I can choose by device name instead of port numbers?

It would be a lot more intuitive to be able to choose "S3000 or "737" from a list than "MIDI 1" or "Audio 1" when choosing the input source for a track. I understand patch names won't be displayed for MIDI connections, but I can get around that.

Also, does live import/recognize Standard MIDI Files?

I looked through the manual but cannot find any reference to Standard MIDI Files or port naming.

As far as I know, no you can't rename port or inputs.

For MIDI files, yes you can drag standard midi files from lives browser and drop them in.
