8O :?:

Are you sitting at your desk staring at an unopened box, or have you actually made some sound with Live yet?

drag an 'external instrument' plug-in to a midi track, set it's MIDI to to your MIDI output the keyboard's on

Hesh, chill out mate. Forge asked a very specific question in order to try and help you out.

You have given him (and the rest of the forum) SOME of the information required, but we need a little more:

By "operational" do you mean you have your R3 plugged into your iMac audio in (soundcard)?

Can you meter the R3 audio input inside Live if you arm an audio track to record?

Please, dude, everyone only wants to help... how do you have it currently set up?

cheers!

ya dude, i can visually see midi communication led's light up and levels in the mixer when i hit a key on the R3...but no sound........i have the R3 routed l/r outs from the R3 too a single mini jack in the back of the imac.....i have no clue what is up.

Are you metering audio (as opposed to MIDI) input from the R3?

Check that the iMac's audio input is assigned in the "Audio From" field of the input/output selector of the audio track you want to record on.

the R3 is also hooked up USB.....in the external instrument, "audio from", i go to configure and in the preferance window im seeing a "!" "if you want to select audio in select a driver" i have stock "core audio" thats it....is that the problem? Like im waiting for the sound to just explode outta my speakers but its being a bitch. 2 clear things up, the imac has a in and out. 1 for speakers, 1 for the R3, right?

midi from: R3 keyboard/knobs
Audio to: Master
midi to: R3 midi out/sound?
Audio from: 1/2?

I have the track ON/SYNCED/REMOTE

ive tried "local off" also on the R3

im obviously missing a step

thanks for your help people

Have you got the iMac inputs set in Live're preferences?

It should look:

Then the audio track should look:

under 'core audio' there should also be 2 choosers fro 'audio input/output' you need to select the input in there

I dont know what the R3 USB is for - is it an audio interface as well? if so then you can probably select it as an audio in , otherwise you will have to plug it into the iMac's own input which might mean you need a mini-jack to left/right 6.5mm jack lead

edit: what PB said!

what i dont get is.....if all info is transmitted via USB...what do i need these audio cables for......shouldnt the USB provide sound thru live? Like, i can for instance use the R3 and impulse and trigger live instruments, so um ?
