Live 7.0.3 8-Core MacPro Not Working

Post by toneburst » Sat Mar 29, 2008 12:34 am

I've just installed Live 7.0.3 on my brand-new 8-Core 3.2 GHz MacPro, and initial impressions aren't good. Live seems verrrry slow doing basic things like turning on or off MIDI monitoring on a channel, and seems to crash when you quit, or take a very long time to quit. Also, I can't seem to get Live to respond to MiDi inputs in any useful way. With my M-Audio Trigger Finger plugged in, I get occasional red MIDI activity lights at the top-right, but Live doesn't respond to MIDI note ons or controllers. Additionally, live doesn't seem to go into Play mode. I can't get it to play MIDI notes from a MIDI clip. The Play button goes green, but nothing else happens. Similarly, I can't get any audio clips to play. Essentially, I can't get Live to do ANYTHING useful.

I'm wondering if there was a problem with me importing user settings from my old G5. I chose to import the User Folder via FireWire with the migration assistant, but not the applications from the old machine. Could this have caused the problem, or is this a more general issue with newer machines or OS versions?

I had Live working on my old Dial 2.0GHz G5 PowerMac perfectly (though it may not have been this exact version, I think it may have been Live 7.0.1).

Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

I think I've narrowed-down the issue to being the MOTU 828 Mk3 audio interface. Live basically doesn't seem to want to work with this device at all. If I set Live' output to this device, I get no audio. If I then go back to the Audio tab in the Preferences, I get a big ! at the top, then another next to Audio Output Device and Channel Configuration. I've managed to get output from the builtin speaker, so it seems to be an issue with the 828. I've installed the latest drivers. I know the 828 Mk.3 has only recently been released, but has anyone else had any experience of using this device with Live on the Mac?

Resolved!

Sorted!

Turns out the Migration Assistant had copied-across a load of PPC-only VST and AudioUnit plugins from my old G5 machine. Eliminating them seems to have solved the problem.

One to look out for, I think.

lol... I try and escape, and someone finds me ;)
How's it goin'?

Not tried it with VDMX yet, as I've run out of installs. Gotta get in touch with David or Ray and try and get another authorisation.
Should be cool though.

Incidentally, just uploaded a couple of new qcClips to Memo's site

if you're interested.
