RME Expresscard/34 for my multiface or an ultralite

I have a multiface hooked up to the desktop, I am looking for an audio int. for my macbook since discovering the depths of polluted audio artifacts coming from the headphone output. (see r2d2 thread).
SO, I could buy the rme expresscard for the multiface, but did I see this correctly, over $400 for the card alone????
For this price I could almost buy an ultralite with mic preamps.
SHould I just get a new interface or buy the multiface interface card? not sure what to do, thanks for the counsel.

Even the old PCMCIA was 300 Euro so do not expect any cheaper. If you want simple and inexpensive get the new Echo express card
