Did you plan to build your own controller ??
Did you plan to build your own controller ??
are you satisfied with your controller?
especially about clip triggering and the poor way provides by the actual Live version?
when will ableton give us more information about that ??

the question might be : "do you consider Ableton Live as a meta-instrument that requires a meta-controller i.e. a diy controller ?? "
Indeed, for my own opinion, Live isn't complete without a full control !
This full control can give us opportunities to build our own gear... without full control, live performance isn't as powerful as it can be !

Absolutely not.
Check out www.myspace.com/chapelierfou
There is a little (not so great...) video where you can see my controller. It's only sending notes. one row per track, one line per scene, one stop per track. Simple.

ok.
it seems to work fine.
but I need to kill my screen, you know
I mean, I don't want to use screen, or mouse...
LED's Feedback is the solution, for my opinion and for my ideas about live perf.

I think it's very clear we need something like the Monodeck II clip trigger grid. FAST. They know how to build it, they know how it works, Robert Henke even said it would be the only sensible part of the Monodeck to copy! PLEASE DO IT for non-technical musicians like myself. I like a small hack but if it involves coding python cracked out on morphine with my dick in a sling, I just leave it for what it is.

are good places to begin with Live API.
Pure Data (or Max) can be a good tool too.
BUT
I very agree with all those who don't want to put hands in code.
I code with java (especially processing.org), php, a little bit perl, a very little bit python, actionscript..
BUT I don't want to code a thing that could be (or will be) provided soon. or not soon... WHEN? is THE question.
Kozak, midibox.org can be a very good beginning.
I eat docs, tutorials etc.. But before to build anything, I think Ableton could be communicate about that...
I'm not a strategic buiseness man... I can understand there are MANY strategic things in these things (partnership etc ..) but we, the musician/users, have to know more

All you need to buy from ucapps/midibox (hopefully) is a usb/midi pcb (the brains of the whole thing). You can buy the switchs/pots/faders/buttons from any electronics shop.
It IS the programming that frightens the hell out of me. Building one would be a peice of piss - but making it work might be a different story!

programming it seems to be very documented.
the part who frightens me: control/feedback from/to Live ...!
clips slot matrix to feed LED light routing etc ...

I'm working on an implementation of the bridge between the real world and the API - midi bridge already written by MDK in Pd which requires no coding and only th most recent vanilla D/L of Pd (free) to work it, it should be customizable by anyone who can put together a DIY midi controller - the bits of Pd you would need to understand to get it working are very simple. I should have something usable done by tomorrow, and will report back on the Live API google group, and the patches will be on Assembla
