Can I play and inst. and a clip in auto from the same trck?

I would like to be able to play an instrument live and have a clip controlling some of its track effects parameters.
I would be like running the track in IN and AUTO mode at the same time with out having it recording.

Any suggestions out there??

the playing clip's envelopes will still effect the instrument and FX parameters, even if the monitor is set to "in"
