How much to upgrade from EDU version?

Post by twolf » Sun Apr 06, 2008 10:18 am

Anyone know how much it costs to upgrade from an educational version of Live 7 to non educational version? Can't find the info on the site and waiting for support to get back to me.

why do you need to upgrade from a edu version to a non edu version?

I purchased live 7 from an ebay auction, slighty cheaper than retail price, but when I opened it up, the serial number says (EDU). I presume this is an educational version? If so, I am not a student or teacher and would prefer the normal version.

That is very honest of you. I suggest you get in touch with the Abes.

Was the price only slightly cheaper than retail/full version? If so, I think you should go back to the seller. Beacuse the EDU from Ableton themselves is quite a lot cheaper. :?

Suite Boxed Retail = 799 Euro, Academic = 399 Euro... European EDU pricing PDF

I have argued it with the ebay seller. They sold it for cheaper than the retail price, but more expensive than the educational version! They have agreed to pay for my upgrade but I can't find out how much this is. Still waiting for support to get back to me :-(

Thats not only against the terms and conditions of sale for the educational version, but also false advertisement fo the goods on sale, I'm not even sure you can sell on the license at all (I would have a look but I'm not at work right now so don't have the license to hand)...I'd e-mail ableton support if I were you.

An update on this subject and I'd also be interested in other users opinions.

Had some right trouble with the guy I purchased this Live 7 from, was supposed to be full version but turned out to be edu version. I paid cheaper than the standard retail price, but more than the edu version!!

His argument was that it can do exactly the same thing, so whats my problem (cheeky fooook, you can imagine my response!!) Anyway it went on and on and he reckons Ableton shipped him the wrong software, ha. I threatened to report him to ebay and to Ableton but he said he'd already spoken to them about it.

I'm always careful on ebay and he had 100% positive feedback, all from selling software.

I did actually call the support number and spoke with Ableton Sales, I was surprised that they said it was fine, I did tell them I'm not a student or teacher, they stated that he's not supposed to sell me this software but now I have it I should be glad I got it for a cheaper price 8O

The ebay seller has refunded some of the cost, so it now brings the cost down to slightly cheaper than the retail education version, but I'm still far from happy.

Sorry for the long post, but what do you guys think about this?

PS - Went to contact ebay about this today and he's no longer a registered user!!

Sounds like a scam.

i vote for getting 100% of your money back from them, and giving it all to Ableton. Contact ebay if need be.

I could go down to the local university and buy all the educational versions and sell them on ebay for a profit, too. doesn't sounds all the legal to me, but I'm not the forum lawyer.

[edit] oh I see your update now. good on you for not just being happy to get a good deal on a shady deal... the fact that the seller had 100% positive feedback says to me that you are more honest than most, and the fact the seller has switched names says to me he's pulling a scam operation. I'd still try to report everything to ebay, maybe they can stop his/her next round of bogus sales.

if the situation is ok for ableton that you have it i would talk with them what to do when you want to upgrade to newer version when they arise.
