Where is this $99 deal? Every site I've seen says it's actually $20 more than a BCR and if you are planning to buy 2 then you are up in the $300 range.
This was a pre-Namm order special---which I don't think is being offered anywhere anymore. The U.S. Dollar f*cken stinks right now---maybe that's why it's not as much a bargain as it is across the pond.
yep, our cash is a suckin'

I am totally having one of those beasties. For less than £70 it's an affordable experiment, I say!
You can't beat the price and the potential. For a small footprint, the Nocturn might have a mighty big foot !I've been messing with Automap 2.0 and although the Nocturn might not yet support Live right out of the box ( from the manual on the Novation site) the Automap Midi Client option will give you substantial control. You've got 129 continous controllers across three pages---across 16 midi channels. You think 2,064 assignable controls should be enought for Ableton ?

just downloaded and installed the beta.
i managed to make it work in automap 1.0, but i can't get the control maps to work.
first, i have "no clients detected" on top of the transparant window.
so i guess i have to use the "MIDI automap" as surface control In and Out (i currently have Port2, which works for 1.0 style automap). is that correct?
then i can't create a control map such as the ones on your snapshots.
the only options i have available on the automap server are import and export control map. no way to edit it.
in the help files, it says i have to press the "learn" button, but there's no such button on my ZeroSL.
i'm quite stuck. any help welcome!
thanks
circuitslave, I am struggling to figure this bit out. Working with vst is fine but when it comes controlling Live on template 38 I am not getting very far.circuitslave wrote:

Is there any chance you could elaborate on your setup at all? Are you doing anything clever with your midi setup? Thank you very much.
Yeah, I hear ya, totally. I've sworn off all cars that don't have genetically modified chauffeurs built into the dashboard and in-seat bollock-warmers as standard.beats me wrote:I really don't get what the excitement is all about here. But maybe because I am less than thrilled with Novation's automap and I have swore off all new controllers that don't have motorized faders.

Well, you see, first off, Automap 2.0 was/is being released with limited sequencer (automap mixer) support right now. This is the major cause of all the bitching and moaning going on. No offense, to you.

I believe Cubase, Sonar, Nuendo and Traktion or the only ones supported right out of the box. In the meantime, Automap 2.0 introduceds a "virtual midi port" of sorts. With this option, you can pretty much control anything and everything in Ableton. You use Live's internal learn function and create your own CC control maps.
Now the thing is, you need to "disable" the control surface option, in a sense. If your using a Remote SL25, like I am, for instance, or whatever control device you are using (SLXX, Zero, Nocturn) which Live supports. If you set up your controller through the drop down option, as you would for a normal customary setup, you'll continue to automatically load the defaulted Live Automap ( Template 40), when in fact you should be using the template 38 instead. In other words, by disabling-- choosing "none" in the options, this will allow the automap midi control map (you created) to automatically load when starting Live, instead of the regular Automap template--provided you have an enabled the Automap Midi options as well.
I mean, you could leave it default and then switch templates on the device (remote sl). I'm speaking strictly of using automap 38 with Live, though. I hope this makes some sense.
Read the manuals for more explanation (the beta automap 2.0, and even reading the Nocturn manual will help for clearer understanding) or check out the video tutorials on Novation.

Thanks to circuitslave I have it working now - this is what I was missing in case anyone else needs it.
In Live prefs, disable standard Input and Ouput for RemoteSL (ReMOTE SL:Port 2)
In Live prefs, set Remote=On for the Automap MIDI Input MIDI Port
On Automap Universal set 'MIDI Channels' to whatever you want (e.g. 1)
On Automap Universal set 'MIDI Input Port' to 'All'
On Automap Universal set 'MIDI Output Port' to 'Automap MIDI'
Open the Automap Universal GUI and create your template by assigning all your SL controls to specific MIDI CC's.
Once you have your template use Live's Midi Map and your SL to assign your controls to Live.

Do you know, or did you ask if whether two can be used at once with Automap? I would think only one could be used, for some reason.
At the present moment only one device can be used but it is being worked on and multiple devices will be available with a future automap update so you can combine automap devices.

let me get this right: if i start up only automap and adjust the settings as you described, shouldn't i see a map of my SL on the gui? the nocturn video on novation seems simple enough but i'm just not getting the same results as the tutor. all i get is the "welcome to automap universal", though it does tell me that i have one client connected and remote sl connected.
can you or anyone guide me through this in idiot terms please?
edit:
figured it out. just had to open the user folder via the sl. doh.
