I don't believe it's out yet---maybe middle/end of the month at the earliest.

i had the chance to play with that thingie at the frankfurt musikmesse.
the features of that affordable controller were realy impressive:
8 touch-sensitive rotary encoders, each with a led ring, 8 assignable and illuminated!!! buttons and a crossfader.
the guys at novation also implemented an "on mouse over" function that takes control of whatever your mouse is focused on a tweakable parameter in your software!
BUT
imho the nocturn suffers from a cheap build quality. the messe sample i played with already had 2 "scratchy" encoders. i asked the novation guy why the encoders already feel scratchy. he said it´s an early prototype model. hmmmmmm i found the crossfader has a wobbly feeling too.
in comparison with the faderfox controlers they feel more like toys. although the faderfoxes are very small and light they are build like a tank.
for serious live situations i would not take the nocturn. i would look for another controller. in a small studio the nocturn will definitely have its place.
the nocturn isn´t a high quality product but what do you expect given at such an affordable price ...

The speed knob is an odd thing... it doesn't always work right (I use the remote 25 compact sl) and in no way can I ever expect to it replace the mouse. I still find myself using the mouse (or in my case, trackpad) and more/less forgetting about the speed dial alltogether.Damon_Chambers wrote:for 100 bucks i want it for that speed knob. i HATE using the mouse to tweak various software knobs.

can u dive a bit further on the oddities of he speed dial ?
like damon i was / am quite interested in that function alone
i was considering it to move warp markers as i think it is not possible to do it without a mouse
can u pls try to do it with your compact

sent an eMail to novation tech support asking for info about the availability of the Nocturn:
their answer:
this really pisses me off.... now which controller should I buy... f()ckk!....
their answer:
so.. the end of the second quarter means and of august, beginning of september...I cannot put an exact date on it, but the nocturn should be available in by the end of the second quarter/beginning of the third quarter

You would have to click on the parameter you want to control first with this though, wouldn't you? Still, not a big deal and it looks good. Are you actually using one with Live yourself?Machinate wrote:Griffin Powermate... set it to transmit up and down arrow keys and you're off.Damon_Chambers wrote:for 100 bucks i want it for that speed knob. i HATE using the mouse to tweak various software knobs.
sweetwater indicates they will have it "in late may"furrybum wrote:Wouldn't the end of the second quarter be june?melikoff wrote:sent an eMail to novation tech support asking for info about the availability of the Nocturn:

UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.
I wish I could get into it further but I simply cannot ever get the thing to work! The speed dial to me was the least interesting peice to the Remote 25 Compact's marketing hype. BAsically, my understanding is that whatever your mouse/trackpads cursor is pointing to, the speed dial will automatically control. So if I have my cursor pointing to a tracks volume level in Live, in theroy the speed dial should then assume control over the level. This never works. I go to turn the speed dial knob and nothing happens. Meanwhile every other knob or button controls something in Live just like it's supposed to.nonnus wrote:thelike5:

Maybe mine is broke? I dunno. Everything else works as it should. I'm probably doing something wrong but like I said, it's not that important to me and I haven't really dedicated that much time to figuring it out. The annoying thing is that there shouldn't be much to figure out!! The demo simply and clearly says the speed dial controls whatever the cursor is on!
Not on my controller!
