trial version 7 - internal track routing disabled?

Post by decrepitude » Tue Apr 08, 2008 4:14 pm

I can't seem to route the output of tracks in 7.0 to other tracks. Is this a limitation of the 14-day trial? I thought it was supposed to be "full-functioning"!

Why can't you?

If you click the I/O button, the routing options appear/disappear.

So my question is: do you not see the output options, or when you sleect the routing options drop-down menu does nothing else show up?

Yes, I have i/o visible. The only choice I have for "Audio To" is 'master' and 'sends only' and several audio tracks are inserted. I own 6.0 and am thinking of upgrading, but I never seen this. I assumed it was a limitation of the trial version.

Quite strange.

well... i haven't tried to do what you are doing in demo mode, but I think you are right in that you _should_ be able to do anything but save...

but why? I dunno.

Are you on a mac or PC?
What's the input of the track you are trying to route? (No Input or Main In 1/2)?
Can you select AUDIO FROM on one of the new audio tracks?
What's the blank audio track set to... Audio IN AUTO or OFF ?

Are the new audio tracks stereo (or mono)?

Also, no there's no 14-day limit on the demo**
I think Ableton designed the demo so that you could easily install Live on a backup computer and perform your whole Live set if need be without having to buy another license. Handy!

**OK, the save function has 14 days. After that, you can still use it in demo mode... should be fully funcitonal?!?

Argh. When was the last time you looked at 'downloads'?

I just downlaoded it today. Even had to 'authorize' the trial version with a serial number.

Laird,

I appreciate your questions, but I've already tried all those things.

Back after lunch......

Hi decrepitude,

Track routing is not a limitation of the trial. Actually, I did that at home this week-end with that version, so I'm curious about your particular setup. Could you send me your Live Set?

Cheers,

Carl

well, the 14day thing IS new (news to me!)
And who'd expect an Ableton owner to check the demo downbloads section all that often?
;)

Carl,

Thank you for your help! I am a registered user of 6.0.10 and am just trying out the trial here at work on my Dual 2.3 ghz G5 tower (OS X 10.4.10) Just to be clear, this is a problem even with a blank set. If I have inserted several new audio tracks, any of those tracks should be visible choices in the 'Audio to' of any of the other audio tracks, correct? (<<obvious question to illustrate point.)

If you really want me to, I can send you a blank set. At that point, I should just go through the regular support channels...

.. and get a response in 1-2 days.

Just to reiterate; you really truly have Monitor set to In?
(old how-to, but should be the same in v7)

Laird,

It should not matter what monitor is set to.

1. start a new, blank set.

2. insert several new audio tracks

3. Go to any of the "audio to" at the output of any track and you will see any of the other audio tracks as available choices.

I'm not a newbie to Live. :)

I'm not trying to imply you are a noob.

It should work exactly the way you describe. But apparently it is not.

So maybe its a Mac bug? Seems unlikely, never seen that on the forums.

Maybe you created MIDI tracks instead of audio tracks? Seems unlikely, too.

On my PC, using Live 7.03, I can't seem to find a way to get new audio tracks to NOT show up....
