reaper 2.2 has elastique 2.0
they have ported Olga as well.
it's a pretty cool dual ocs VA synth.

Now this is interesting. Upto now I always thought that for audio only SSE2 is useful and anything thereafter was only good for video.what's new in V2
quality improvements:
better transient detection and preserveration
increased bass frequency resolution (bass transparency)
improved stability of high tonal frequencies
new API for easier and more powerful integration:
better workload distribution, workload peak smooth-out
equidistant settings of pitch and stretch factors every processing block
performance improvements:
internal algorithmic optimizations
SSE3 support
We also did an internal code restructuring to make élastique even more stable and easy to maintain.

Good to know about the "non-formant preserving". Now which of Live's timestretching algorithms uses Elastique? Only Complex or the others as well?ableton Live 5, 6, 7 (élastique efficient V1.3)
real-time pitch shifting: non-formant preserving
best quality for: polyphonic, general music input
absolute timing stability: yes
workload: low
Cockos Reaper 2.2 (élastique Pro V2)
real-time pitch shifting: formant preserving
best quality for: any
absolute timing stability: yes
workload: medium
Steinberg Cubase 4 (élastique SOLOIST V2)
real-time pitch shifting: formant preserving
best quality for: monophonic input
absolute timing stability: nearly
workload: analysis low, synthesis negligible
Re: reaper 2.2 has elastique 2.0
Come on guys. Make it happen!
Cool thing is, in Reaper, you can choose between élastique 1/2's Pro/Solo/Efficient algorithmsTimur wrote:Good to know about the "non-formant preserving". Now which of Live's timestretching algorithms uses Elastique? Only Complex or the others as well?ableton Live 5, 6, 7 (élastique efficient V1.3)

Yeah, this is just embarrassing. For a pro app (completely build around time stretching) to now be two steps behind in their algorithim as cheap as f*ck, bedroom programmed Reaper.
I don't take to whinging about ableton on the forum. Usually defend them, in fact. But they should be ashamed to let themselves slip this far behind. They should be top of the pile.
And this thread should be kept top of the first page. Until they sort it.
Come on. Chop, chop.

Vote for a better timestretch in the Ableton survey (see homepage).
I certainly made this one of my top three requests, and if others do the same it will show up in the survey results as a popular FR.

it's not worth a vote, we've only got three choices. Employing a better timestretch codec should take very little to implement...yes/no/maybe ?headquest wrote:Vote for a better timestretch in the Ableton survey (see homepage).

save your votes for stuff that should be done AND requires some work.

Live does kind of rely on timestretching and Complex mode in Live (elastique efficient) is pretty ordinary
Someone I think on this forum was saying something about Justin Frankel who did Reaper being quite likely slogging away getting it right before he sells it on for a tidy profit - I have to say the guy is doing everything right
Reaper is potentially quite embarrassing for all the DAW makers because that one guy has managed to create something so amazingly powerful so quickly that rivals the best of them in quality and feature set and he is basically selling it on the honour system so you can use it forever and not pay a penny if you so desire
Sorry, but I feel some of the hype surrounding REAPER is actually very misleading. The "honour" system is basically a good response to the existence of software piracy, and also serves as a great promotional tool for REAPER. but for any honest user, the cost of REAPER is:forge wrote: Reaper is potentially quite embarrassing for all the DAW makers because that one guy has managed to create something so amazingly powerful so quickly that rivals the best of them in quality and feature set and he is basically selling it on the honour system so you can use it forever and not pay a penny if you so desire
Sure, they do a great discount for non-commercial use (as do Ableton - check out their education discounts). But for those who hope to make some money (now or in the future) from their music (in other words most people on this forum) the correct cost of $225 is not exactly a bargain.Cockos website wrote:The normal price for REAPER is $225.00 USD
For those wanting a linear recording programme (which is what REAPER is - completely different from Live), $225 will buy you entry versions of Cubase or Sonar which arguably offer more. And on the Mac it is cheaper to buy Logic Express, which offers FAAAAR more than Reaper.
Given how poor REAPER's MIDI sequencing is compared to those programmes, the asking price of $225 is actually quite expensive imho. So the hype about the pricing structure is little more than a publicity stunt.
