You really should find more time to make music, you are obviously missing it, you got a great rig to do it...
I'm guessing when your gf leaves, you're gonna spend more time on it.
At least you don't depend on it to earn a living, so you can focus in just having fun instead of feeling pressured to do the greatest song of all time.
Discussion, Music as Career or Hobby?
Dave
When the girlfriend leaves you will find time.
I am the same as you. Have a very busy job that allows me to afford all the toys I want but have trouble finding time.
Also have a girlfriend.
I just spent 6 weeks working in Vancouver living in a hotel. I brought a set of genelec 8030 and an xstation and spent every night playing. It was great.
Girlfriend at home is not going anywhere but I am back off to Vancouver next week so I can expect to get another month of free evenings to play.
You just have to find the time.

After 20years in IT... I would happily give it up to go back to music full time. I prefer working with with creative idiots than souless corporate idiots that became managers because they ar too fucking useless to do anything else.
The only reason I dont is because my IT job is a guaranteed income to to handle the heap of bills that come in every month.

Nothing to see here - move along!
Oh dear dave, that sucks...
Personally, I couldn't do it. Life is too short! Plus looking at all that gear set up and not being able to use it would be torture.
I can see how easily you can fall into the "living to work" trap though.
Luckily for me, I was never very academic, and didn't study anything of worth in college (animation)....
I spent a few years floundering, before I decided that I wanted to make a living out of music. The only realistic way that I could see of doing it was to start a corporate/wedding band with my music making friends.
Now almost a year and a half later, and for the first time we are all starting to make a good living from it (after much hard work!), with a very busy summer of gigging coming along.
It gives us lots of time to concentrate on our own music, and we've all improved 100% as musicians having to play other peoples songs so much!
Im 27 with a wife and a 2 month old girl by the way.
