dropping a sample onto Sampler turns it into a Simpler..!?

here's an odd one! live 7 only: open a Sampler on a new midi track and drag a sample onto it, but not into the 'drop sample here' area. try the mod page, anywhere but the sample drop area, and the Sampler turns into a Simpler

just wondering if this is a bug, or a feature of some sort?
i like the idea of dropping a sample anywhere on Sampler and it gets added as a new zone, if that's what its meant to do..

Hi Gary,

that´s normal: drop your samples to the "drop samples here" areas in Samplers, or to the sample layer list after clicking on "zone" to add new layers.

If you drop it anywhere else, Live will do the same as when drop a sample to the effect/instrument section of an empty midi track: by default settings, it will load the sample inside an instance of Simpler.

Indeed, dragging a sample onto a Sampler, anywhere but on the Sample display, in the Sample tab, or, in the zone editor, equals dropping a sample on an empty device area, or on another instrument. As a result, it creates the default action for "Dropping samples/Ont track view".

ahhh so its a Default behaviour thing. now it makes sense.
i just dragged a Sampler into the Dropping Samples > On Track View folder in Defaults, and now it stays as a Sampler no matter where i drag the sample.
