FWIW I returned my 828 MK3 yesterday because there is a known issue with pings and whistles, rapidly followed by audio completely dropping out. With me it started as an occasional thing but over a few days it became every five minutes. A reboot of the 828 resolves it (but of course your DAW software doesn't like that). I'm on a Mac BTW. MOTU confirmed it is a known issue but can't confirm when the new drivers will be ready.
It also fried my ribbons because it has a very "hot" output. I did have my monitors turned way down when I switched it on but it still managed to screw them up.

My Traveler does that as well unfortunately =( Only its usually right when I turn it on or after about an hour of use. It really sucks because its powered via FW400, and my sample HD is daisychained to it, so if the Traveler craps out, I have to save whatever I'm doing, dismount the HD, then reset it. Also I got mine used so I can't return it.. I'm on a MBP too. I'm going to trade it on craigslist eventually...

on friday i got my 828mkIII and jbl lsr 4328p's overnighted in the mail. its 2 a.m. monday. and they are boxed back up and going back because the motu clicked poped dropped out audio and blew one of the lsr's and now it sounds like its farting on a snare drum. i tested them at -20db. im so pissed i could scream i am done with motu interfaces for good. like the guy above said they got a bad problem.
