Re pitch

Post by getafix » Mon Apr 14, 2008 3:59 am

I'm having some trouble with this setting.
Basically got a song from a friends band, and in the last 8 bars they slowed down by about 50%. Thea idea is to lock the tempo at 70 and have the band pitch up. We lined up all the drum hits with warp, but it seems to still be jumping around a lot in pitch, like up and down which is strange.
Does anyone have any reasons why this might be doing this
as well as any suggestions to pitch it up as smoothly as possible?
thanks in advance

It's not a "but", it's a "because".
Because you set warp markers, you get changes in pitch. That's the nature of Repitch mode - it plays the warped segments at different pitches to speed up or slow down the sample playback in order to adjust ("warp") to the given tempo. Repitch mode works in the same way as a sampler.

thanks for the reply, but yeah we're using repitch for that but i meant it would jump down so i guess as i should have figured the drummer hasn't played like a robot and therefore to get a nice smooth pitch increase gunna have warp not quite on the drum beats.
So is there a way that you could draw in a pitch curve for those bars and just by ear smoothly increase the pitch rather than have the jumps? while still locking the tempo through warp?

why don't you just render out the last 8 bars tightly warped(without re-pitch).
then use it instead of the last 8 bar multi track version.

make sure you've matched the level so it goes in smoothly.

draw/automate the "transpose" (to pitch up) of the new clip with the grid off. voila!

Thanks man, thats a great idea, and has worked, up to the point that you can only transpose up in semitones, so you still get a big jump in the pitch.
Anyone anyideas to get a gradual pitching up effects.
Thanks again man

not true, you can transpose smoothly, no problem.

Oh sweet, could you direct me to where the setting to change this is, I'm in env elope and select draw mode but i can see where to change from semitones to smooth drawing in the curve?

Could you not do something with master tempo automation? That way you may not even have to set any warp markers.

Like mrsakitumi wrote, turn grid off. Draw slowly.

or

Don't draw, but set points. Hold Command-key (Mac / I assume Ctrl-key on PC) for fine pitch adjustment of points.

Those are very basic operations. I recommend to read the manual.
