Hello,
I am an paying Ableton Live user.
I also frequent this board, but rarely post. I usually find my questions answered, or someone usually answers questions I could've answered.
I am requesting a re-evaluation on what this board is for.
What areas are for what purpose.
What kind of language and behaviour is tolerated.
What a NEW board member has to read, review, and understand before posting.
Amongst other things.
I appreciate the efforts put forth. But, in the end I'm sick of wading through pointless threads of back and forth bickering.
Or, people who've downloaded the program for free and immediately post questions on how to use the program.
When I started going on forums, the one's that lasted, the mods were gods. Now, I'm not condoning facism, but anarchy cannot rule a board.
I would prefer more input on your end in disallowing/disapproving of flaming etc.
I am not looking to attack anyone, but my overall impression of this board when I come here.
I work another job for a living, I love music as my passion...
I don't want to spend my free time wasting it.
Thank you for your time and consideraton.
peace

Hello Jonathan. I am the only mod on this board, and unfotunately I am an anarchist. Not as a political ideology where governance comes from the buttom up without centralization and all that, but like the kind when people are using the word wrong and it means I just want complete chaos. So without question, anarchy must prevail here.
I hope you understand.

Hi, you must be new here.johnathon doe wrote:I'm not condoning facism, but anarchy cannot rule a board.
First rule here:
Anarchy rules this board.
Second rule here:
Anarchy rules this board.
Third rule:
We control the horizontal.
We control the vertical.

Hi Jonathon. I understand your sentiment, I have a list of people who I believe you need to contact.
See I had a similar sense of issues, but I contacted the folks in Berlin and spoke to a guy called Dom who told me you're moving with your aunt and your uncle to Bel Air". I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said "Fresh" and had a dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought now forget it, "Yo home to Bel-Air". I pulled up to a house about seven or eight, and I yelled to the cabby "Yo, Bobby Stoops smell you later". Looked at my kingdom I was finally there to settle my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.

Just to say, Ableton have done a sterling job against the spambots recently. Haven't seen any for ages. Appreciated.
So maybe there is hope for some small improvements...
I'd like to see:
- a sticky on how to search the forum properly using Google
- User's IP addresses shown as default
- and possibly read-only access for non-registered Live users; it's got disadvantages, but I think the advantages would outweigh them
I can imagine that there is more hope for one-off improvements, rather than high-maintenance continuous tasks - like moderation - which would be time-consuming for the Ableton staff.

Thats a good idea8O wrote:- a sticky on how to search the forum properly using Google
thats a very bad idea- User's IP addresses shown as default
what if you are using the demo?and possibly read-only access for non-registered Live users; it's got disadvantages, but I think the advantages would outweigh them

then i would suggest that the internet is not for you, sir.johnathon doe wrote: I work another job for a living, I love music as my passion...

Why's that? My thinking was that it would discourage inappropriate behaviour by removing one small layer of anonymity. It's by no means fool-proof e.g. anyone can use an anonymiser, but it just adds a little more accountability. But I'm open to correction - if you have security/privacy concerns, for example?mdk wrote:thats a very bad idea- User's IP addresses shown as default
Yeah, that's one of the disadvantages. But see Ableton now have this trial version, so maybe trial version users could also be registered (and hence have write-access) for their 14-day trial period.mdk wrote:what if you are using the demo?and possibly read-only access for non-registered Live users; it's got disadvantages, but I think the advantages would outweigh them
Everytime someone brings this up, I feel compelled to check through the first page of the general board.
We have Bounce's Tibet thread, M Breq's Afganistan thread, and a kind of live performance related thread on Matt Dear's HD being stollen. All the others are relevent threads about Live, Equipment, VSTs etc.
That's not bad at all. I find it hard to believe that you've been wading through a thread labelled "updates from afganistan" trying to find useful hints and tips on Live. You never know, though. There might be some gems in there.
Also, you'll notice the people getting involved in off topic discussions, are very often the same ones helping people out with problems and tips.
Ableton have stated numerous times, they don't interfering in the forum. I've seen them step in a couple of times though.
Yeah, the spam bot situation is much better now. Hadn't even noticed that.

exactly. why should everyone else be able to see my ip address? its just making it easier for someone to abuse that information. it doesnt offer me any protection, and as you say, if you want to use an anonymizer you can, so its no prevention against anyone determined to cause trouble.8O wrote:But I'm open to correction - if you have security/privacy concerns, for example?
I think that just over complicates things, tbh, i dont have any problem with the board as it is.Yeah, that's one of the disadvantages. But see Ableton now have this trial version, so maybe trial version users could also be registered (and hence have write-access) for their 14-day trial period.
