Actually, all these suggestions of 100% Wet etc. will result in less flangering sound...

Interesting... I just tried it on a stock synth lead and the effect was greater at 100% wet compared to e.g. 50% wet. I know what you mean, but the effect was definitely greater, hence the original signal quieter in comparison. Try it out...

Surely putting the flanger in a send channel and switching that channel to pre is the solution to this...?

Agreed.
I think if all u wanna hear is the wet sound then putting ur effect on a return, changing it to pre and then lowering the volume of the drum loop, etc. will do the trick.
