Live Version 7.x.x and Macbook Pro

Post by Dense » Tue Apr 15, 2008 9:28 am

I've had ongoing issues with my macbook Pro and Live, ever since upgrading to Version 7. I'm aware of the Airport problem, and wish that was my issue, but it appears not to be. My problems are very, very similar, however. I get very glitchy audio with one or two tracks even, and latency is all wrong; playing an audio and a midi track side-by-side causes all kinds of timing issues (that never happened with previous version). My CPU % is around 35% just for one or two audio tracks (which seems very very high).

I've read the threads about using Coolbook (from coolbook.se) but when I downloaded the demo, I couldn't get anything useful from it.

I was originally on OS X.4 (tiger), and Version 7 appeared to work for 2-3 weeks. After an Apple update, I lost all workability with Live, and contacted support. After not getting a resolution, I decided to purchase OS X.5 and see if that helped. It did. For 2 weeks. After another update (perhaps the airport issue?) I started to have this problem again. Live is completely unusable. The problem does not disappear when the Airport card is turned off. Can other users share some of their experiences with these issues? Does anyone have any other advice for the Coolbook settings besides the ones discussed in the threads here (or perhaps in more detail?)

Seeing as though I did a complete reinstall for OS X.5, there must be a hardware issue causing this, either something related to the airport drivers, or with the stepping of the processor, but neither seems to help my issue.

Help?

Does it happen at all in something like Quicktime or iTunes? IF you can show it in an apple app I'd say take it back to the apple store and show them.

No, not at all. It is only Live and only Version 7 (when I was on OS X.4). I was still using 6.0.10 on OS X.4. I'm fairly confident it is a problem with the stepping, but really unsure of what to do at this point. >_<

I used the demo, but couldn't figure the thing out. Does it become so much different when using the purchased application? I found no ability to invoke stepping from the demo, whatsoever...

I've made a really silly realisation:

I never had tried running Coolbook with the airport turned off, for some reason. It seems I was having problems from both of those issues, and only when I had the airport off, did the Coolbook app provide any sort of relief. I guess that's good news for the Coolbook guy, as I'll now be purchasing his software...
