Suggest me accurate headphones for Live?

Sony MDR-7506, A good set of headphones is just as essential as monitors and can prove to be an even better tool because many people can not rock out in the middle of the night when they get an idea.

I reccomended the genelecs because of experience and i thought u said
that cash wasent that big of a issue... i bought my pair second hand and
got grate value for cash, and thats the smallest pair but its one of the
best investments ive ever made music wise...

The point everyones trying to make i think is that monitors sound more
"natural" because of the fact that u precive the sound with both ears.
even if u pan hard left, your right ear will hear the sound...and the
soundwaves have more space to develope....even if that isnt optimal
at all times.

I personally belive that we dont listen only with our ears but with our
whole body so some sounds (espcially bass frequencies) tend to make
your body move in a certain way wich makes, me atleast, feel sounds
with my body and not only hear them which is the reason i prefer
monitors...

but i do have a pair of AKG k271 that i found beeing the ones i
prefered the most out of all the sennheisers and AKGs i tried
(under the 250$/200€ mark that is)...so again...to emphesize.....

MONITORS YEAY!!!....HEADPHONES..NOT SO YEAY!!!

Extremely flat and neutral iem
Etymotic ER4-S
So flat that they sound rather boring until you get userd to them.
Second sennheiser HD600 flatter bass than the HD650, they have a similar sound to the ety's.
I've got both, I use the HD600's when it's quiet (they're open back so leak sound in and out) and the ety's when I'm out or it's noisey.
Both need a decent headamp to drive them.
www.head-fi.org has lots of discussion and advice on the subject, and the search works better than on hear aswell.

Another vote for the AKG 240's.

They are also very easy on the ears, even after hours of wear - never found the Sennheisers that comfortable myself, but that could just be my big head

OK the general ruling seems to be "get monitors" ... what are some decent inexpensive monitors? Money isnt too much a problem, but I'd rather get better at what I do than appear to be good at what I do just by having nice equipment.

Also, do monitors need a separate amp? If so, will any sort of preamp do? I have an old Roland SRA-50 preamp (has red/white AV inputs, +/- speaker outputs) laying around, would that work?

for monitors check out krk's. they are cheap and they work.

most monitors are self powered.

also research on mixing techniques.
