But when i goto assign midi to the button. how do i tell the button which signal it must respond to? i press the button on my controler. but it uses the controler button not the midi one.

how do i tell the midi clip what to send?

If I understand correctly, there is a conflict because live is reading your hardware device over the software. If this is the case, perhaps temporarilly deselecting this device, and only leaving midiyoke connected will work. Just make sure that mid yoke is selected as a remote device.

make sure monitor mode is set to in on the track with your virtual midi port enabled as the output, and set the input to be your control surface.

you'll know when this track is receiving midi, as the track level lights up.

you can now map the control through the virtual midi bus

well, first forget about your cd-player. first you should get your midi-remote-loop going.

1 Make a midi channel. output midi yoke. make a clip, looping, with one note.

2 go to the midi preferences. mdid-yoke-in has to have "remote" enabled, midi-yoke-out has to have "note" enabled.

Your looping clip si sendig a note out which is coming in as remote-midi-message now.

3 now start your clip. it sends out the note, looping.

4 go to midi-assign-mode, click on the button you want to control. the next time the note is being played/sent, it will assign to your button.

5 go out of midi assing mode. stop your clip. now deselect loop on that clip.

this clip should now remotely turn on or off the button you have assigned in step 4.

6 make a copy of that clip.

7. go to midi-assign-mode, assign each button on the cd player to one of the midi clips.

caution: make sure that the note you choose in step one does not conflict with the notes your controller sends out. Easy solution: while your controller sends notes on midi-channel 1 and 2, choose as midi output in step 1 above midi-yoke-out-channel 3.
