so, Live 2.0 announced for december

Post by os » Fri Nov 01, 2002 11:41 am

Sounds great!
The list of new features didn't mention AltiVec though :(
Nor AudioUnits.
But it sounds like the basic audio engine has been given an overhaul, & there will be great new performance features. Can't wait!

I have been waiting for this for a while.... The real time tap sounds like a great idea! And cross-fading between songs! Oh! Dreamy! I can't picture how the UI will work but I trust Ableton's crew... Can't wait for XMAS!

i have to say i'm a bit disappointed they are charging $70 for an update... I just paid $240 two months ago for 1.5 ! :x

i will gladly throw down 80 bucks for this upgrade. this new bucha features sounds mighty slick. sounds like ableton picked some fantastic options to include in the new release.

if you just paid $240 for live a few months ago, how does this new release in any way make what you purchased then, no longer worth what you paid?

my only complaint is that live sent me this list of features a month in advance. i'm just gonna be sitting here salivating untill december.

hell, i am way excited. i was hoping to see "one shot playback mode" on the list, but that has already been confirmed by ableton on the fweature wishlist forum a few weeks back.

Oh boy! My only complaint is having to wait until December!!! The anticipation is going to be...cruel.

BUT I would rather wait and get it bug-free!

LIVE is getting closer to being a real studio application. Can't wait to hear what it will sound like! By what is announced it should include some improvement in its algorithms too...

Why wait for beta-testing, I am all set up for alpha-testing already! :P

maybe Live will be able to be used in Cubase SX mac as a rewire instrument when 2.0 comes out because you can't do it now

Yeah!
Easy, tape-style multitrack recording with punch in / out and metronome
functions
This really has my curiosoty piqued, I already do most of my stuff in LIVE but this could mean abandoning Cubase and Logic altogether. I wonder what the new effects are like?
The time-stretch bypass sounds very useful, could be very cool.
I wonder what "selectable stretching modes are"? I hope this can reduce time stretch artifacts and improve sound quality. I wish performance optimization (or Altivec!!!) had been a little higher up the priority list, it almost sounds like an after-thought, but its better than nothing. All in all I can't wait to try it out. The price is certainly fair. Hoorah!

No Cubase SX purchase in my future

Post by amwintx » Sat Nov 02, 2002 4:45 am

I had planned to purchase Cubase SX by the end of the year to accomodate a band recording project (non-tempo synced) I have coming up. No more! I will use Live 2.0 for that project and maybe for everything else! Great job Ableton, I love this software.

it seems that way, but I wonder if it's a good direction for Ableton to be going. I mean, the thing that makes Live special is it's use, well, live.
why write another studio tool when the market is already crowded?
having said that, if becoming a studio tool involves improving the audio processing quality, then that's good for live work too.
