clicks and drops when adding an effect or copying a part

Post by nobbystylus » Fri Feb 29, 2008 12:29 am

I really would love Live to be really real-time with everything. Is there anyway that the annoying clicks and dropouts, albeit momentarily when you add an effect, or copy a new clip or drag a file from the browser in to the session view can be avoided. More and more in an improvised situation, you want to drag an effect in, use it for 6 mins while you're jamming and then delete it afterwards, but i always get a click and a drop out when it happens..

i've tried upping and lowering the buffer, but its always the same, internal sound card or my echo audiofire2, or my motu 828.. always a little click and a glitch..

Couldn't ableton add some kind of little crossfade/buffer to soften the clicks when something is added to the signal flow or is this just the nature of the beast.. ?

hey man

i was just going to post a thread about this - since downloading 7.0.2 i have been getting lots of stutters/drops when dragging and dropping devices from the browser etc

it is also happening when i am not dragging and dropping anything - i'll be playing a dj set - low cpu - buffer size as usual - stutters and sound drops

also - it has been happening in the tracks that i am making - this has nt happened for me in Live for ages

cheers - bzzb

Hello there!

I got the same problem, doesn't seem to be about the graphic card's driver. Tried different drivers, disabled acceleration - still dropouts when opening new effects.
Is there anyone who managed to fix this?

I have the same problems when switching presets on softsynths. Happens with either my external firewire soundcard, or onboard audio, with no computer usage, etc. Didnt seem to be a noticeable problem on Live 6.

i've had several discussions on this board concerning this problem.

and i'm getting desperate myself.
i have the same problem and allready tried every possible setting, even with all midi turned off, and only 2 audio tracks it glitches.

its extremely frustrating, because i have some livesets on parties coming up and i won't be able to play live, not because of me, but due to the problem with ableton...i'm being forced to play my tracks via serato, fucking hell!

Please can someone help!? is there anybody out there at the ableton headquarters who's tracking this Hugely underestimated problem????

I guess you won't feel it that a customer has to change to cubase for example, but for me it would suck bigtime, as i love ableton...but playing live is impossible now, so i'm forced to hate it!!!

nicely put , your glitching sounds pretty bad. if this is a real problem with ableton, it COMPLETELY undermines all the talk of ableton being perfect for live use....NOT so perfect when you can't rely on it!

i've checked everything with Michael from Ableton support.

He helped me a lot allready.

and for now i can say that we narrowed the glitch problem down to my firewire card. (not the soundcard, but the port)

(at least, i hope that this is the problem)

apparently Motu soundcards prefer a very specific firewire port, with a chip on it from Texas Instruments or LSI
this is what they mention on their site: Keyspan, Sonnet, Miglia, and ADS are a few of the many brands using the TI or LSI FireWire chips.

also an article on soundonsound describes the problem of many users here and narrows it down to the fact that the firewire port can be a reason for the glitching.
article:http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec06/a ... s_1206.htm

so in other words, i'm gonna search for a firewire pci card with the specific chip on it and check out if the glitching is gone...
lets pray!!

if this would be the sollution, then i'm gonna be extremely happy...
i first had doubts of this being the cause of the glitching, but after some research on the net, several sites mention this as a common problem with audio stutter and glitch.

so, i think its worth mentioning and worth trying.

good luck!
