Trigger Finger and Zero SL stepping on toes...
Trigger Finger and Zero SL stepping on toes...
hi there,
probably something simple due to my lack of understanding.
I use the 8 pads on the Novation Zero SL to launch clips on the currently selected scene...A check on MIDI-OX shows that it is sending note information relating to these pads.
I wanted to use the Trigger Finger to launch some specific clips. Problem is the Trigger Finger pad seemed to send the same note info as the ZeroSL so it also launched the clip that the Zero SL was controlling. MIDI-OX confirmed that it was sending the same note...
I kind of thought that because they came from different devices Live would be able to distunguish them in the MIDI learn? Am I wrong on that one?
My solution was to use Enigma on the Trigger Finger and edit the notes to something an octave down. Seems to work now, but I wonder if there was a smarter way to solve the problem. I mean I was probably more interested in the CC message rather than the note messages.
Can anyone see a better way to solve this kind of clash?
Thanks,
Paul.

aha thanks...And is that a setting for the current TF preset that I am on?4.33 wrote:you could as well change the global midi channel for your TF preset (different from the channel on the SL) and then re-learn it with midi map
offtop, how do you "use the 8 pads on the Novation Zero SL to launch clips on the currently selected scene."?
do you think I should be using note messages for launching clips from TF - or would controller messages be a better choice. I think it can send both and I got a bit confused as to which would be best).
(on your other question - well I have a an endless encoder wired to the scene up/down buttons so I can scroll around scenes in a set very speedily. When I am on the scene I want, I may have several (max of 8 for me) clips that I want to launch at various times. The SL pads are wired to launch the clip on 'current' scene....I never use the scene launch button as that would launch all the clips on that scene....I find this approach gives a dynamic feel to performance...)
well, when you edit your custom preset you have this global channel slider (second from left). you'd want to set it to the channel not used by your sl or your synth or your midi keyboard.Paul440 wrote:

technically, you could use either or both (notes and cc) for this purpose of launching clips.
however, what i like best in the TF - you can really turn the thing into an effect box controller by using its pad sensitivity and cc mappings.
my personal favorite is to copy an Impulse preset, assign the doubled pads with unique ccs then map each pad to an effect on/off switch and effect parameters simultaneously. some reverse mapping will be required, but in the end you'll get somewhat similar to a kaoss pad!
GOD DAMN!
i've never seen current clip launch buttons available under midi map in each track!! i've used faders to bring clips in/out!! geeeeeeeeee.....
thanks man! ))

If anyone else missed it, this Launch button only appears in MIDI learn mode. Its directly above the PAN dial of each track.4.33 wrote:

try setting the scene up/down (also appears in MIDI learn) to an endless encoder on zero SL - you can move through about 15 scenes in a second wtih one swift twist! That combined with the launch buttons on each track (described above), kind of lets you launch anything anytime.... interested if anyone else is doing it another way?
Paul.
Hey, guys, maybe you could help me in the following: i've recently bought Remote SL 25, yesterday, first time I tried it with Ableton, using Template 40 (Automap) and bumped into 2 problems so far:
1) I cannot trigger a certain clip that I want, only the whole scene;
2) I use "Tempo" knob on the keyboard, but Global Tempo in Ableton doesn't change...
how can I solve this?
Thanks in advance.
