so,

when various record shops / press articles refer to 'those music blogs' that can supposedly make or break an artist, which sites are they on about?

They are most likely making a general statement about sites like myspace and facebook because 15-year-olds now decide the fate of the world.

Pitchfork is definitely said to be one of them.

But make or BREAK an artist?

Break might be stretching it a bit but there's no doubt that it can certainly help kick-start a career.

Ahhh you mean publicity machines like:

And ...
http://discodust.blogspot.com/

I don't feel Blogs can break an artist but certainly they can thrust an artist into the spotlight for 15 minutes (longer if they're lucky AND original AND talented).

I've found some immensely inspiring music from the blogs above (generally dance remixes of tunes from the Indy scene). Loving the Designer Drugs remix of Protokoll's "Moving Forward" on DiscoDust.

Could blogs one day replace radio (and internet radio?).
; )

i too have found some awesome artists/djs through blogs. like discodust introduced me to GRUM. that guy has some insane music.
